I have a Philips 37" CRT type HDTV. Sam's was closing them out in 2002/3 when I built my house and I bought this beast. It is a monster at around 200 lb. It's so heavy that I had to use my tractor's loader to hoist it up to the 2nd floor deck and into my living room on a hydraulic lift dolly so I could lift it up and put it on the special TV stand that can hold 200 lb. This HDTV was pre-HDMI or USB adapters. Also, it's interlaced, so the resolution is 1080i instead of 1080p. I have a very nice Samsung 46" LCD TV in my basement game room and I'd like to go up to 52" there. I've been hoping that lightning or something would turn this old CRT weight lifter's dream into junk so I could justify buying a new TV for my game room and move the larger 46" TV up to my main living area. Of course, since I want something to happen, this beast just keeps on working perfectly. Maybe if I put in on craigslist under "free stuff" I can get somebody with more muscles than brains to come get it.
Funny that we did something similar. When I designed the house, I knew our current TV was going to be too small to see in the new living room. The TV was 20 inches and when we moved to the new house you just could not see the screen because of the view distance. Flat panels were on the market but no way was I paying that kind of money so we bought a TV around 36 inches, CRT of course, that was 150-200 pounds. I somehow was able to lift that on to the stand. :confused3::shocked::laughing::laughing::laughing:
A few years ago we bought a 65 inch DLP TV when they dropped in price at XMAS. What is funny, is that I was looking at TV prices and technology on Amazon yesterday, a people were selling used models of our TV for more than we paid new!:shocked::shocked: Anywho, we put the CRT in our room on a moving dolly because we were going to give the TV to my FIL. It took awhile to get the TV to his place and it was a PITA to move that is for sure.
A couple of months after moving that beast, my FIL's house had a power outage and the TV was fried.:shocked::shocked:
He had to get some help to take that thing to the dump....
