Great job!

I am not quite sure you should have fired it before the mortar had chemically cured.
Driving out the moisture that quickly may have compromised the strength of the bond

Wow.. no way Id tackle that today.. Im lucky I could choke down a couple beers in this heat;)

What a guy, Scoob. Always willin' to take a couple of beers for the team, eh?

LLoyd, that fireplace looks especially nice with the lantern on the high mantel. Are you gonna line the entire firebox with firebrick? I see you have them on the bottom, but it looks like you'll just leave the structural brick on the sides and back.

Looks great. A project like that will give you a new appreciation for the masonry profession.

Can't wait to see your bake oven. I'm baking in mine today, you'll love it.

Thanks All.

I know I shouldn't have fired it up but I was too **** excited to do so - especially in 90 degree heat!
Scooby - good to have you as a team member - pass me that beer! Is it down L'pool way?
Jin I will be lining the inside with fire brick.
Egon... have several of those - one with a wood-stove... the other has a fridge and the other a forge...

Polo... my uncle was an old school master mason. I thought of him every time I placed a brick. Should have started this 5 years ago...
He would have had it completed in a morning, plum, square, straight and move beautiful in design. And the beer would have been cold consumed and him wondering why it was taking me so long to clean the tools!!!

I like labour... and find the back of my pick-up comfortable to sleep in on occasions. And no it is not a dog-house! :)... yet!
