Don't know what I'm doing right. Deer as thick as rabbits here, too, and I've not had deer in a 100' x 100' garden in the 7 years I've been here. Tracks all around the place; never in the garden.
4' fence is more of a marker than a border. I hang plastic bottles on the posts to sound in the breeze. I hang pungent soap pieces in a few places on each side (had to make small wire cages for them so the raccoons & possums won't eat the soap). And I pee on the wood corner posts on a regular basis.
I had something eat a couple cantelopes one year (heard coyotes like them, and they're as thick as the deer around here) but that's it in the garden, except insect damage. Something with VERY sharp teeth punctured a rubber hose I had laying outside the garden last year. Didn't chew it up, just a bunch of small punctures in one spot. Very strange.
