Point is that some of us dumbo's will put up with A LOT OF PAIN to avoid surgery. But there are others that will stub their toe and cry for pain meds. The doctor's can't tell the diff w/o the right evidence. For me it was an MRI.
...

Shoot, this dumbo will put up with a lot of pain to avoid going to the doctor!:laughing::laughing::laughing: After all, it will get better tomorrow.....

People also have different pain thresh holds. I know a guy who feels very little physical pain. You can twist this guys arm and shove it up his back, press nerve points so hard it causes bruises, or use painful arm locks but it does not phase him one bit. Dangest thing to see. Do any of those things to me, or anyone else, and we would be in pain and screaming to stop. Him? Just a bit of annoyance. People thought he was on drugs and he had to go pee for a drug test.:laughing::laughing::laughing: No drugs, just all him. :D:D:D

Later,
Dan

I've blown it out sneezing, bending down to dry my foot after a shower, walking up stairs. It used to go out all the time in high school. My mom thought I might be faking it to get out of school until one day I was headed across the street to a keg party and went down in our lawn and had to scream for my mommy to help get me back to the house. Then she realized I was not faking it if I would pass up beer.

Man! I can r e l a t e.

I had a blow out checking a tire while on my hands and knees. I crawled to the house and then went to the ER. My muscles were so tight, the doc called others over to look at them.

Nothing like showing everyone. :)

Ice, NSAID's and rest. Works very well for me.
Pinched nerves can become a serious problem if they persist. You need to find out which way the nerve is getting pinched. It could be the joint bending either frwards or backwards. If you are bending it or sterching the wrong direction you are making it worse.
NSAID is nonsteroidal anti inflamatory drug ........ Naproxin Sodium, Ibuprophin. even aspirin. There are a bunch of prescription types that work well on some and not so well on others.
Ice has been a real wonder drug for me.
YMMV but get it under control soon.
I have also used slings and gravity to relieve upper back pain many times. This has saved me from serious pain and many trips to the chiropracter.
I also have an inversion machine, I have used one for 20 years and I think it has prevented and relieved back pain but I'm not recomending it. I think you need to get some images and this will tell you what to do.

I've been walking 20 to 90 minutes after lunch nearly everyday since February 2008. My back feels a lot better now than it did before 2008.

Find a good Chiropractor.....I've had lower back pain off/on for years. I now go to my Chiropractor about every 7/8 weeks.....he keeps me straightened out.....knock on wood.....very little pain these days. Good luck!.

I'm convinced the only way to cure an aging back is to get younger.
For immediate non-drug relief I alternate cold and heat.

I have had 3 back surgeries where the doc "nibbled" bone away so it wouldn't press on my sciatic nerve.

Almost every morning after I sleep in a bed the back is in pain and I have to "stagger" around for a few minutes to an hour while trying to stretch it out. If I sleep in a recliner - little problem.

For long term relief weight loss helps. Also stretching EVERY morning.

Newbury, you nailed it perfectly. I am only 52 but this year the back pain became chronic. Now every morning is a struggle. The worst is a cough which I get because of post nasal drip or whatever. Each morning, a cough attack **** near paralyzes me. I want to drop to the ground like a sack of potatoes.

Having suffered from back problems most of my life I've found the best remedy is to prevent it in the first place. A lot of good that does you now that you are suffering, eh? Anyhow, there are many kinds of back injuries. My most frequent is muscle spasm that pulls my vertabrae together, pinching a nerve, putting me on the floor pretty quick. Doctor gives me Cyclobenzaprine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, a muscle relaxer and I hit the floor on a thin pad for 24 hours. Then its tender for a few days, but I can at least move.

Back surgeon said there are two alternatives. Excersice or surgery. Surgery is last resort. Excersice is free and best prevention.
They have me lay on the floor on my back with my arms down by my legs, palms down. I suck my gut against my back and push down with my palms for 5-10 seconds. Then relax for 10 seconds. Repeat. I do that for about 5 minutes every day. They said strengthening your core muscles (your gut) and your spinal erector muscles will really help, as your core muscles will hold up your spine instead of your spine holding up your muscles. Its worked for me. I had a recent spasm that put me down (I was drying off after a shower for goodnes sake), but that is the first time in several years.

Good luck to you. Hope you work it out. :cool2:
Yes, proper exercise is definitely prudent but shoot... i hate that. Got to get a little thinner.

Anyone try one of those 'hang upside down' things as seen on TV? Wondering if that will help a self diagnosed pinched nerve?
