Jinma 284 Electric Light Stays on, Battery won't stay Charged

I love those link belts! I now use them on all my belt-driven equipment in the shop, as they transmit power with virtually NO vibration and about 30% better coupling effectiveness at a given tension. The only place I don't use one is on the blade drive for my riding mower, which has three flat idler pulleys that run on the back side of the belt - I just don't know if that's good for the link belts so I haven't switched that one out.

My table saw, band saws, lathes, drill presses and planer run so smoothly now that you'd think they were expensive machines. I bought most of my link belting from Harbor Freight when they had it on sale and after about four years I'm ahead of the game financially since I haven't had to replace a single belt. And they all still look and run like they're new.

Dave, you said at 3/4 throttle the light goes off ? That tells me the Alternator is trying to charge the system and the regulator is kicking in.I would have the battery checked out first, I think that may be your problem

There are belt tension (deflection) gauges on the market, but a good rule of thumb is to only be able to deflect it one belt depth.
Thank you Bob - I did have a slipping belt and have installed one of the link belts.
I have heard about using the thumb to check deflection, but was never told specifically where on belt to apply the thumb.

In the center between the two closest points, which are generally the water pump and alternator. And to be more technical, your thumb should weigh about four pounds. This is not exacting science but it gets 'em going in the field.

Drat! I've lost some weight and now I'm no longer sure about my thumb. Is there a conversion factor for using say, a can of baked beans or maybe a fryer chicken instead, Bob?
