I have been a diesel guy since 1998 with my 1999 F350. Back then diesel was 75% the cost of 87 octane. Now, in my area, It's $.40 more on the gallon.

When I was 16 diesel was $1.17 and $30 would get me a tank of fuel and 2 cans of snuff. Last time I checked it took almost that to fill up my RTV.

Diesel fuel does not COST more than gasoline, it is priced higher due to refinery optimization toward gasoline & skewed government tax policy toward diesel fuel (very few non-road diesel fuel outlets, or similar light duty automotive fuel outlets). Combine this with absurd zero emission EPA micro-slicing, and you have reverse policy of what should be - diesels use less fuel, have more torque, and emit less carbon dioxide. Yet, we subsidize gasoline. WTF?

Yes, we have the best government the petroleum industry can buy. They make far more money selling beaucoup more gasoline to inefficient automotive engines. The root cause is corrupt, money-influenced governments by industry tycoons. Back to the 1910's.

Actually the attacks on diesel and diesel machinery is not from the oil industry but the ECO-nuts. Most of the rules and regulations we have today started out from CARB and were based on fraud. What better way to take down American logging, construction, farming, mining etc. The lives saved was a made up number, the emission were off by over 400% in the study. The guy who did most of the work bought his degree and never went to the school the degree was from. Other members of CARB knew this and let it pass because of the ECOnut agenda. This is also where EGR was mandated, even though they really knew it wouldn't work. Once the fraud came out then both CARB and the EPA in 2009 change their stand and would allow SCR (DEF fluid) to be used.

It's so bad that Navistar is being fined by the EPA for using the very EGR tech that the EPA developed and said would work. This is also why Caterpillar left the highway engine market in 2009.

If you search for CARB fraud and Hien T. Tran you can find a lot of information about the fraud committed. Or search for Navistar and the court cases against the EPA. Of course being the government, Navistar isn't having much luck.

Currently Diesel is about 20 cents more a gallon but it was about 90 cents last winter.

Today gas here is $3.39and diesel is $4.08. Thats a $.80 split. Its usually around $.50. Diesel has gone up every day for the last two weeks but gas has held steady.

87 Octane gasoline $3.529, #2 Diesel $3.859 here in the upper midwest US.

The gas stations here charge $.20 a gallon to go from regular to mid and mid to premium gas. I have seen it be $.30 from mid to premium. It used to be $.10.

Ford is likely saying no because they do not have an immediate source of a diesel engine to use in a half-ton truck. VM Motori is building the Chrysler 6 cylinder diesel, they have been building this engine since 2012. It is interesting that VM Motori is owned by Fiat and GM, each have a 50% stake in the company.

That's BS when the new 2014 Transit full sized van will have a 3.2L inline diesel option along with an ecoboost
