The one they sold me for my 4035HST came with a Mahindra Max sticker on the side was actually made by Kodiak for Mahindra. It seems to be a good product.

I have a 6 foot Mahindra SD (standard duty) made buy Kodiak and have not had any issues with it. I paid $1350.00 for it last April.

The 5 foot SD model I looked on Monday sells for $ 1150.00 - really fair price. Looks like the back is open ... rear discharge like our old woods mower. Our tractor is around 28 hp - not sure if it could pull a 6 fioot in high grass. Thanks for your input.

I have a Kodiak HD8. It's been great for the 2.5 years I have had it. Seems well built.

I have a Max 25. It easily handled a 5 ft rear mount bush hog. It also has a 5 ft mid mount mower and I have only once choked it out that I've killed the engine. A rear mount mount runs at lower RPMs. I don't think a 6 ft would be a problem.

The next question to ask is "Does the extra foot make a difference in getting the job done for the money?"

Short answer, yes.

Long answer is to calculate the time exactly. How many passes with your 5 foot mower does it take to mow your area? How long does it take to make a single pass? How many passes are you going to save? That's how much time you can save.

Another way to look at it is for every 5 passes with a 6 foot mower, you've covered as much ground as 6 passes with a 5 foot mower.

Another consideration is maneuverability. Is there anyplace that is a tight fit with the 5 foot mower? A 6 foot would surely fit tighter.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just pointing out whether is the extra $2-400 really worth it.

In my case the I'm finish mowing about 2 acres every week, and making a pass on the other 2 acres about every two-three weeks. The extra foot would probably save me about 15 minutes, maybe 30. Not a significant enough difference to me for the dollars. So I have to wait a little longer to put my steak on the grill. If it were 8-10 acres then I would probably cough for it. If I were doing 40 acres, I would go to the bat wing type mower that they use alongside the highway.

Again, it is what you value and where you're using it. :confused3:

Hi 67PLY,

I have a Kodiak "Mahindra" stickered standard duty 5 foot rotary cutter with a slip clutch. I have had it for a little over a year and I have been very pleased with it. I have taken on more than what it is rated for and it is holding up very well. I looked at many different brands and I felt for the money this was one of the better built cutters.

My tractor has approximately 23hp at the PTO. Quite low, but it handles the 5 footer well. Tall grass can bog the tractor a bit, but anything else is no match. I think a 6 footer might be a bit much for your tractor.

Tax included, I paid $990 for the 5' with a slip clutch. I don't think you will be disappointed. My buddy just bought a 7' HD version and wow! Built twice as tough as a tank.
