Rimguard sounds like the way to go to me along with increasing the weight on the 3 point. Thanks again.

Having tires filled and external weights also allows the front tires and axles to operate with less weight on them when lifting with the FEL. Stearing is much easier with less weight on them. Overloaded front tires are also prone to rolling off the rim.

John You might seriously consider wheel extenders. A wider stance does a lot for stability. The Rimgard helps with traction and stability when combined with as much ballast as you can safely put on, there are limits however. Somebody on this forum can give you a link to the guy in Ca. that makes the wheel extenders. His name is Christian Hansen but I don't have his contact information. Good service and the price is reasonable for a good product. The extra width made a big difference on my L3800.

Wider stance does add to stability. Dual rear tires would be the ultimate. But there is a certain place to stop on stability.

Have to differ with you on the ultimate in stability Whistlepig. Parked on level ground while sitting on the porch couldn't be beat but it sure makes seat time less enjoyable. . .. . . . :laughing::laughing::D

The Miami Conservancy in Ohio uses dual's on their tractors to mow the steep banks and levee's on the big Miami and little Miami rivers. Hills and levee's that would scare me. Dual's are not a reasonable choice for me but may be for some.

I have the Rimguard, I think it is derived from beet sugar. There was calcium in the first tractor I had and the wheel was rotting out. I will not use calcium again.

You said you almost tipped over sideways. Depending on the particulars, that may be an issue of how and where you were lifting. BTW, I don't think turf tires have as stiff of a sidewall as R-4s.

Adding weight to the rear tires (filling the tires or wheel weights) will NOT lighten up the load on the front axle or tires. You need the weight behind the tractor to do that.

My tractor's rear tires where filled with Eco-Friendly Antifreeze and water from the GitGo.

Good move. Ethylene Glycol is green, proper for cooling systems but is extremely poisonous. A table spoon is sufficient to kill an animal or small child and it is sweet. Propylene Glycol is red and is safe for use even in winterizing potable water systems. Given the frequency of tire leaks, one doesn't want Ethylene on the ground.

I'm pretty new to running a tractor and have a basic question about what is discussed in this post. Would you only fill the back tires if you were operating a FEL or is there a reason to have filled tires in any tractor. I use my tractor almost exclusively for mowing (bushhoging) and occasionally pulling stumps. etc. Don't have a FEL. Would there be any benefit to filling the rears? Also, this may be a stupid question but, since mine is 4WD, would you also consider filling the fronts ? I do run in soft boggy ground occasionally.
Also, how do you fill the tire with fluid ??? (I warned that I was new at this...)
