Greetings all,

My local dealer has a sale on Titan 5" Rotary cutters. I have a 49 8N to run it with. Are these decent cutters in anybody"s experience. They come w/ a 5 year gear box warranty. It seems in Nova Scotia a used rotary cutter is hard to come by, and I need one for my orchard. Would anybody recommend a side bar sickle mower instead? Am new to all of this. Thanks,

I would imagine for mowing around an orchard a sickle bar mower would complicate things.

I don't think you'll get any better than a 5 year gear box warranty, I could be wrong.

MCushing,
Greetings! Grew up right around the corner from you, Plainview! Now out in CA.

I just bought a new Titan 5' cutter, but have a manufacturing issue..... trucker delivered new unit....with one blade unattached! I'm trying to reach someone at Big Bee Metals to confirm torque spec's for this 1 1/8" bolt.....that attaches the blade to the "stump jumper". I've received the paltry bits of instructions that they call a manual......but no real maintenance instructions. This coming from a guy who is just entering the tractor world from world of autos and classic cars, where torque spec's are the law....so to speak.

From what I read, you need a good 20-30HP to run a 5' unit, and without a "live PTO"(?) the momentum of the blade spinning can keep you rolling until it winds down! So you are advised to watch out for obstacles, and keep your turning radius in mind with the mower hanging out back!

I'll try my issue on a new thread......as I haven't fired my unit up yet. I just want to get some tightening spec's for the entire unit and go through it before I head out and start throwing parts all over the back 6.5!

Cheers!
Steve

I have a 6' Titan I bought new with my tractor last fall. Used it a couple of times before winter hit. No problems. Pretty good steel thickness for the price. Steve's got it right on the manual - pretty much useless.
