Justifying a cost of a diesel

I am a fleet mechanic and the best motors out there are the 7.3 powerstroke and the 12 valve cummins. No emissions = better fuel economy. New diesels are getting horrible fuel economy (thank you EPA) and most take DEF fluid on top of the price of fuel being through the roof. Buy a 7.3 or a 5.9 and add 2 stroke oil to the fuel on every fillup to combat the ultra low sulfer.

Thanks for the reminder to add 2 stroke oil.

That's quite a spread.
There's a Pilot at 15151 W Commerce Rd, Daleville, IN, 47334 that Gasbuddy reports RUG at $3.55 and Diesel at $3.83 in the last 48 hours.

Non ethanol premium is still more expensive here (N Idaho) than diesel...

In Indiana by law they cant sell non ethanol, its all 10% or higher and all diesel is 2% bio or higher.

Not marked for off road use. I've put it straight in my vehicles plenty of times.

Not sure how? In indiana it has been the law for the past 3 years that no fuel for on road use can contain less than 10% ethanol.

Farmers have pull.

Are you sure its the law? I'm not doubting you, its kind of the same way in Illinois, almost all fuel had ethanol, but not all of it. I think its more of a policy and public relations thing in Illinois than a mandate, plus with the government subsidies, its cheaper.

Ok, I stand corrected. I just called my fuel supplier for farm fuels, a Marathon dealer. Here is the loop hole they are using.

Country Mark produces fuel made with Indiana Petroleum. If a fuel is made with Indiana Petroleum, ie crude oil, it does not have to contain 10% ethanol to be sold for on road use. They had some lobbying power. Long and short of it is they only produce it in 91 octane and there are fewer than 25 stations actively selling it in the entire state.

I called Country Mark and verified his info.

I stand corrected.
