The wife was mowing the lawn and the engine started making some rattling noises such as made when mowing over rocks...but the mower deck wasnt engaged at the time.

3 seconds later the engine stops....seized tight.

I went out and priced equivalent new machines with the same options i had in this unit....like electric blade engagement, etc, and its closes in in $2,800 plus another 400 for the bagger unit......and no one locally had one in stock...they wont get mass orders in until spring 2014.

I also looked into zero turns, etc...but i dont have 4-5 grand laying around.

Bit the bullet and ordered a new complete engine from a company called Equipatron (listed both thru Briggs and stratton and also found on ebay). I ordered it on Monday and it is due to arrive at my home this afternoon (thur).... now thats service.

This is way cheaper than buying a new rig, and the old motor pulled out in under 30 minutes.

Its given me 9 years of dependable use, so i guess a heart transplant was in order.

Now...where is that UPS truck

Good luck swapping engines. Now, I hope the lungs, hips and joints last you another 9 years at least!

actually it was super easy to swap motors....it came complete in a box. included new starter, newfuel pump, oil filter, new carb, air filter....everything . All i had to do is unplug the 6 point plug, unhook pos bat terminal and remove mower deck and all belts.

4 bolts held the engine in. Took about 2 hours to remove everything...cause i had no idea what i was doing.

Took less than an hour to install new motor and fire it up...with new oil.

MAN... she runs like new. fires right up, and way quieter as it also came with new muffler.

all this for $510 delivered.

much better than the 3 grand for a new one.

You gonna keep the old one to scavenge parts off in case you need any?

ya, im debating just setting it aside...or maybe opening it up and seeing if i can repair it. Depends on how much spare time i have. Funny thing is i was in the process of replacing the starter on the old one..thats a $180 part (Lucky i hadnt sent off the $$$ yet). the carb runs in the high 300's.

a short block is $350-375 if i was to rebuild the old one.

An entire engine, incl new starter, fuel pump, muffler, carb, air cleaner....the works was only $510.00...delivered.

doesnt make much sense why the separate parts are so much

All spare parts kept in good condition will never be used . only the part that is missing from pile wears out.

Nice job, way better than a bunch of $$$ for a new one, or more for a zeroT. Plus no core return or charge!
What kind of warranty?
