Just saw an add for Kroger, said they are selling the "Olathe Sweet corn". Y'all should give it a try if you can get some and hopefully it will be fresh!!

This heat is crazy, 6-9 hours on a black-top doesn't help either 106* on my porch today

"Wasp-es build nest-es out west on post-es as big as my fist-es." My mother would say that to teach me what the proper plural of those words is by saying all the wrong things. I was amused to hear Gollum in The Hobbit use the same phrasing. Our paper wasps don't make nests like the one you showed, Ron. I think our wasps are generally not as easily irritated as your hornets. They generally leave you alone unless you get very close to their nest. . .es. :laughing:

These bald, white faced hornets really are not aggressive either unless you get near their nests; then Katy bar the door
They are nectar and spider eaters. With all the flowers around the exterior of the house and the 2 hummingbird feeders out front at the other end of the porch, 50+ feet away they are very content. They get everything but their rear end into the hummer feeders. My wife keeps a pair of tweezers on the porch table and when she see's them in the feeders, grabs them with the tweezers.
We've had to remove a few nests in the past when they build in the horse barn. That's a real nervous situation and has to be done in the dark.
At least we don't have rattlesnakes or naked rain dancers up here

Here on the ranch/farm the Keetch-Byram Drought index.. 0-800 scale,, we show to be 825,, I know unbelievable,, I took it myself with my own instrument,, homemade.. Microwave oven, scale and a pound of dirt.. Very complicated procedures,,
But that’s not why I am here,, came to talk about hornets ,, I can remember my older brother and myself stirring up a nest of wasps.. Must have been thousands of them.. largest nest I have ever seen.. He got stung I guess over a hundred times and I didn’t get stung once.. We were right next to each other.. Within six inches of being face to face.. I can still remember the same words he kept hollowing over and over again.. while I just stood there and watched.. He kept hollowing and screaming the same words.. “Please, please open the screen door”.:shocked::laughing:. Lou

Around here we have red wasps, guinea wasps, yellow jackets, bumblebees, and dirt daubers. I've never seen a nest that looked like pacerron's. Have seen two or three times what we call a hornet and they are a lot bigger than a wasp. Maybe three times bigger and make a lot of racket. Every time I've ever seen one it was by itself, no nest.

Burn bans list is growing. We have more counties issuing Bans. We're going to be real hot and with the wind that's blowing all of East Texas is looking like a tender-box. Be very careful out there.

I don't think Parker County has been out from under a burn ban in over a year, now. If something ignites, the entire state may burn, like 2 years ago.
