Fox8 News in Cleveland has 4 or 5 stories on it on their site.

There are days when I'm around the woman and think I need to get back to Mars or send HER to Venus !! :D

When traveling here from my planet of grumpasorisus we stopped by Mars you know the wimen folk have bathroom issues whenever we travel at light speed, While we were stopped she remembered she left her curling iron on and before we could call the federation power supply authority the planet exploded ! Now we are stuck here with a intergalactic visa to an expired planet all due to a curling iron ! 1.9.jpg Oh yeah! Mars was really dirty from the gold dust blowing around But I'm willing to send anyone who is willing to stay there and clean the place up .

Why would somebody throw their life away on a one way fatal trip? Do they have no family or ties that keep them grounded?

All of the explorers of yester-year went to the far reaches of the earth, (and moon, I might add)...but all had the belief they would come back home when they were done.

If they could establish a self sustainable habitat on Mars, it would be insurance for the continued existence of humans independent of Earth. That would be a very big accomplishment and hardly a wasted life.

Most of them did make it back but there are a few cases that they did not make it off or back onto the face of the earth.

There are many many more when you look at the adventurers that fell off of the flat earth when sailing west from Spain or England in the 1400's till they ran into India in 1492. :D

You can't make something from nothing. Meaning the supplys alone for a few months would equal the weight of the craft taking them there. Not to mention the equipment and housing in the interim of finding resources that may, just may, very slim might be, probably never be developed.
Nothing but a expensive Carnival ride with the thrill of death at the end.

Read up on what happens when you send people to a new world to develope a civilization. Jamestown, Roanoke (the lost Colony) and others had people that were monied but no or very few skills and had to be forced to work for the survival of the group. "No work, no eat". The native population was barely making it when the Jamestown colonists landed. And these people had fish and game and don't forget air to breathe.

I would not want to be with the group that is going to Mars.
