Learning to use my new tractor and rotary mower- NEED SUGGESTIONS!

Thanks for the replies. It sounds as if I need some chains so that the rotary cutter does not come into contact with the ground in front. My tractor does not have incremental adjustments on the 3pt. It is either up or down.

E U R E K A !!!!!!!

Relative to UP/DOWN, try turning in the 3-Pt Adjusting Valve. It should be a twist-adjust knob behind your legs.

If the valve is all the way open, the 3-Pt really drops, BANG. It may be that is why 3-Pt will not stay up for you.

Likewise, I have never heard of a tractor without 3-Pt. height adjustment, especially a Yanmar, which is second only to Kubota in sales from Japan.

Let me try to explain. The 3pt will only go all the way up, or all the way down. There is no setting in between. If I put it, say, halfway between up and down, it will go all the way down.

When I have the tractor sitting on flat ground, the front of the mower is touching the ground with the 3pt in the down position, and the rear is raised slightly. Other than using chains somehow, I do not see any sort of adjustment to change it.

It does not bang at all. In fact, it drops very gently. However, there is no in between, it is either up or down.

PF, you should be able to set your 3ph arms at any height between highest and lowest, and it stay there. The lift on my B7500 has an open/closed valve system. You raise it or lower it to the point you want, then leave the lever in the middle. Is this the type you have? If it is, you only adjust the lever to lift or lower. The rest of the time it is in the center.

Went back out to the property, and figured a few things out. First off, there is a little wingnut deal on the 3pt control which is supposed to tighten up and keep the 3pt in any position desired. It does not work, which is why the implements just fall down no matter where the handle is. I went to the hardware store and got a bolt and a wingnut so I could make that work. After that, I set my mower at the height I wanted, and really went to town cutting. I got about 1 1/2 acres cleared. The bad news is I hit a HUGE rock. We're talking bigger than a basketball. It was BAD. It was hidden beneath the blackberries, and the mower unearthed it. I felt terrible. My new blades are messed up, and I thought for sure I must have broken the whole brushhog and tractor. Nope, they are still moving right along. Unbelievable how strong this stuff is. I don't ever want to hit a rock like that again.

Glad you are finally in business.

Try to use your bucket, about 4" off the ground, to feel your way into thick stuff.

Sometimes going in tail wheel first works best, but you have to be careful that the 'Hog does not lift.

What front/rear deck height did you use?
