XC-99
They built & installed a "Nuclear Reactor" to test the possibility of Nuclear powered aircraft.
Thankfully it did not work out for AC.
But did work out for and was installed in What????

There are several kinds of Jet engines Ram jet (V-1) On & on.

A newer type of jet has been produced & tested that can power a plane to over 7,000 MPH????:anyone:

Anyone going to guess who designed a lot of the nose art of WW2???:confused3:

Yes!! My guess on it was wrong, different a/c but I don't know the name of it.

XC-99 I believe that was parked at Kelly AFB Tx in 1954/5 with a cracked wing spar. It was said a piper cub could take off in the length of the fuselage. I think it was built using B-36 wings.

Could be, I don't know if more than 1 was ever built. Wing was almost / if not the same as a B-36.
The military wanted to see if planes could be powered by a nuclear reactor. One was built / or installed in the XC-99. It was never used to power the plane. I use to have the story some where.
The reactor was actually successful and went on to power???

The most prevalent rifle used in WW1 by the American's was the Eddystone Enfield, in 30-06, due to a shortage of Springfields, it is not as pretty as the Springfield, kind of blocky, but a good serviceable rifle. The majority I believe were made by Remington. My dad had 2 brand new ones still coated in cosmoline when I was a kid, I think we gave about $10 or so for them each. This is all from Memory, no googling.

New questions :confused3:
Does AF-1 have offensive weapons??
Does the president have an escape capsule or para-shoot??
Was AF-1 / or a presidential plane ever used to spy or set up to spy??

Great memory. Remington, I believe, had just finished a big run of the Lee Enfield (.303 caliber as I recall) under contract from the British government, so they were all tooled up for this particular rifle when the war began. The opined it would take too much time to tool up for the Springfield, so they ordered the Enfield instead, but in the 30-06 caliber. They were a rugged, accurate rifle; not very pretty, but very serviceable. Wish I had one. I have a 1943 version of the .303, nice rifle but at $1.50 per round, I don't get in much target practice with it...and with my shoulders being what they are, I need a set of training wheels to go with it.
