Sweetjeep, don't know if this will help but I had a problem on my 06 3720 that suddenly, without warning wouldn't crank. I got a click when trying to start and the headlights worked. Jumping with my truck battery didn't work. It would try to turn over once, and that was it. Long story short, it was a shorted cell in the battery. Dealer replaced battery and it lasted about a year. Same problem, a shorted cell. This time I got a JD Strongbox battery, and it has lasted about 3 years.

good luck, Dave

Thanks Dave. The tractor is running. My darling little boy pulled the PTO switch. It never even crossed my mind to check it as I have the backhoe on and there would be no need to pull it. However, when you are a 3 year old and there is a yellow knob to be pulled when you are unsupervised.

I should have known when I got on and everything was out of whack.. :)

Got a voltmeter? Check the fusebox (below the steering wheel base).

You could have a bad cell in your battery or a ground problem.... or a problem with the presence switch on the tractor seat. Check to see if you've got 12-13v at the battery and work your way down from the ground post on the battery to the starter solenoid.

If the battery's gunnysack when you hit the starter the voltmeter will pull down several volts below 12v. That's not enough to twist the starter over but it is usually enough to cause the starter to click, click, umph... If you've got a bad ground connection, you've have a very similar response at the starter solenoid connection. Voltmeter will pull down way below 12v and the starter will generally click, click and umph..

With the switch on check for 12v at the seat presence switch. Usually the connection is just loose.

Any help would be appreciated! My JD 110 was working OK. stopped to put air in a tire and now it will not start. I have the starter clicking & trying to engage but nothing is happening. I have tapped the starter a bit and same thing. Any ideas? Thanks In advance. I have no wondering 2 or 3 year old either. Just me & the cranky wife...

Before you get to far into it... try good jumper cables or put the battery on a charger.

It sure sounds like a battery problem.

Your trouble points to needing a new battery... or a good charge... or just cleaning up the ends of the battery cables for fresh and secure contact.
