john deere 4320&cat d2 bulldozer 1954
I just got a D2 bulldozer from my friend across the street she has two the d-2 and a d4 she told me if I can get them running I can have the one I want and she would sell the other one and would share what she gets for it . shes doing this because her husband just passed on and they bring back to many memories. my question is what are the foot peddles for they don't move thanks for any help.

Foot pedals are steering brakes. There should also be two levers up on the dash. These correspond to the foot pedals and unlock the steering brakes when turning. For example it you want to turn left, pull the top left lever and push the left brake pedal. The drive train when operating properly keeps both tracks locked together so the travel at the same speed all the time. The top lever disengages them so whichever lever you pull will stop that side track from pulling and allow the other side to push the dozer around.

The levers unlock the steering brakes? I thought they released the steering clutches, removing power from that side. You have to use the steering brakes only when there is not enough load to cause the tractor to turn as tight as you want it to when you release the clutch. At least, that's how IHC track tractors of that era worked.
