Yeah.....good luck with that.

I got hit at a McD's for money to buy "something to eat".....and I don't give money out either......so I took the guy in line with me, ordered and paid for a meal for him, took mine and when out to sit down. I watched as he tried to return the meal and get "his money back".

It takes all kinds.

Had this happen to me last week. 2 young guys come up to me as I was about to go into a pizza place. They asked for money for something to eat. I told them I wouldn't give them money. They asked if I would buy them some garlic bread. I asked if they wanted pizzas and they said sure. I bought them each a pizza . They thanked me and walked off eating pizza.. I will feed the hungry ,but I won't give out $$

I don't get it. How can two young guys be hungry? Aren't they young and strong and running against the winds of life?

I'm retired and was broke a lot in the early days but true grit always made me be a survivor. I worked or horse traded stuff to get by. In my life I've done all sorts of stuff and was pretty hungry at times but I never begged.

After saying that, I would help those unable, as opposed to unwilling to work in a moment and do that now.

I didn't understand either. I didn't ask any questions. They wanted something to eat and I fed them. Now if this was an every day event, I would offer them some type of work, clean up ,etc, So, they could feed themselves

A woman asked my mom for money once as she is leaving the store. She said she is hungry . My mom reached into the shopping bag and handed the woman a bread. She started to scream and swear at my mom and said she want money not bread. She ended not getting anything from my mom.

Twenty years ago, you could walk into any store or business and ask for a bit of work "I'm broke, hungry and a long way from home. Have you any work I could do to earn a few bucks. I'll clean your truck, sweep the parking lot, tidy up the basement" and the owner could pay you cash out the till.

Nowadays, there's no cash in the till, just credit card printouts, the tax inspector would have his hide for paying cash unrecorded, the gummint would have him arrested for exploitation, and then he'd get sued by the guy who slipped sweeping the parking lot or banged his head in the basement...

The opportunities for instant honest temporary jobs really aren't the same now as a few years ago

Bob was sitting on the plane waiting to fly to Detroit ,
when a guy took the seat beside him. The guy was
an emotional wreck, pale, hands shaking, moaning
in fear.
"What's the matter?" Bob asked.
"I've been transferred to Detroit - I've heard the people
are crazy there. They've got lots of shootings, gangs,
race riots, drugs, poor public schools, and the highest
crime rate in the nation."
Bob replied, "I've lived in Detroit all my life. It's not as
bad as the media says. Find a nice home, go to work,
mind your own business, and enroll your kids in a nice
private school. It's as safe a place as anywhere in the
world."
The guy relaxed and stopped shaking and said, "Oh,
thank you. I've been worried to death. But if you live
there and say it's OK, I'll take your word for it. What
do you do for a living?"
"I'm a tail gunner on a Budweiser truck."

Good one StanR.

Detroit has been weird for years. A cousin left there about 25 years ago and headed for Florida. Her husband owned a trailer hitch/U-Haul business there and just got tired of it all.

I got delayed in Detroit area in the early 80's because the brakes went out on my car. A Ford dealer fixed me up, but by the time I left, the sun was going down. As if by some magic all these people just appeared on the sidewalks with their blankets and such preparing to spend the night. I have no idea where they spent their daylight hours. Maybe that area was known as a "safe" place to sleep?

I still have a few "Start your own business" kits. A work for food sign, a pair of dirty pants shirt and coat, some goat pee to rub on for cologne, a pair of ratty shoes, a tin cup, and for a additional price I will send you a broken crutch.
