1974 IH 354 Hydraulic top link

As the title states I have an IH 354 I inherited from my Grandpa. I am looking at options for additional hydraulics. I would eventually like to add a loader but would need power steering as well but thought I would start with adding a hydraulic top link. I am thinking I would need to T into the hydraulic line from the pump to a control valve and then return the the resoviour. Has anyone done this on this tractor?

You can only tee into a pressure line if your tractor is CC hydraulics. All valves are in parrallel.

If your tractor hyd is open center hyd, you add valves in series.

Based on what I have observed and the way the lines are plumbed for my log splitter I think it is open center. The valve for it has a pressure and return and then two diverter lines to operate the hydraulic cylinder. So I would have to add a valve in series. However i want to add the valve in such a way that when it fully extends or compresses it does no then operate the lift. I have a bypass valve for when I operate the log splitter that I must close otherwise when the ram extends all the way or binds on a log the hitch will raise up. I dont want that So ai want to separate it.

Where are you getting the fluid from now, off the pressure line going to the 3pt?

How many valves do you have now.

If your hyd system is open center, then you can add valves in series using PB to connect additional valves.

You could use the log splitter directly off the pressure line from the pump since it has a relief valve, and run the return/OUT line to tank.

If you installed a remote valve with PB, then you can use the PB off the remote valve, and run the log splitter to tank.

You could also plug the log splitter into the remote valve work ports and have a complete path to tank. The PB OUT would go to the 3pt in port.

You would have to bungee the valve lever open to feed the log splitter.

That port on the 424/444/354/364/384 tractors is for a single acting cylinder only IIRC.

You can tap into it for alternate supply using the plug on the isolator valve portion.

On another note I did find that there is a place to mount auxiliary hydraulic valves on the side of the tractor above the PTO lever ont he left side.
