Dose it look like this cap. There is also a spot were the threads are notched out.

That's it --- and yes, the threads are notched out on mine too. You've posted that pic before and it looks to me like there is a little pinhole in the middle of your little poppet there ---- but you say not;
so that just must be something in the pic -----

It also looks like the poppet is threaded in so it might be able to remove it and clean it up. Must be stopped up with dirt or something not allowing free air movement.

What looks like threads is a spring ---- there may be two springs (one on each side of that little poppet) to allow movement back and forth to relieve an over pressure as well as to allow air into the tank. Mine will only move in one direction --- that would be to relieve an over pressure in the tank. So, maybe I have a problem with the spring/springs that allow that poppet to move back and forth.

I finally just called my dealer. He affirms that the cap is the only device in the fuel system to allow air in and out of the tank. Says that it sounds like I need a new cap and is sending me one today --- we'll see if that fixes the problem. Again, couldn't ask for better dealer support ----- that's for all of those folks out there wondering if they can get good support from a dealer on an LS tractor.

There is not a hole there it is just left over by making the piece. I am sure the spring is to keep that piece in a neutral spot. If to much pressure is place on it or if to much vac. is place on it the spring will let the piece move to let air move thru in and out the notched threads.
My guess.

Installed my new cap today --- as I mentioned earlier, I'm not going to be running for any extended period of time until end of October. So, I'm not going to learn or do anymore for a few weeks. The poppet in the new cap does look different from the one in my old cap --- so maybe that's the problem. Cost $35 including UPS next day. If this new one doesn't solve my problem, I'll try my old one with the new hole in the
middle of the poppet.

So why did you have to pay for it? Why wouldn't warranty cover that?

Can't answer that --- it's less than 2 years old so it seems like it ought to be covered by the basic warranty. I sent them that question. We'll see what they say. Thanks for bringing that up ----------

They may not like the hole you drilled in it.

I'm sure they wouldn't ---- their response was that "Typically contaminants cause the fuel cap to not breathe correctly." That's their reason for not covering it under warranty --- not worth the argument to me.
