Anyone use Windows 8?

For example, a few weeks ago one of our Mac users could not log in. She got the shakey screen every time she entered her password. Her Mac lost power while she was logging in and that was that. Any other user in the corp could log in to that machine but her. I sent out a request for help to about 20 of our sister company I.T. departments. Guess what? I got 20 different suggestions to resolve it and none of them worked. It finally rang a bell that I had this same issue about 4 or more years ago on a Mac. It involved a very long procedure to make a new temp user profile, copy the data from the hosed user to that, trash the hosed user account, make a new one and copy the data back. It took 5 hours to transfer the 200g of data twice on an internal hard drive! Macs don't play well with Microsoft Active Directory and security credentials. They aren't logical to configure and there's little accurate documented procedures out there to follow. And if you do find almost accurate documentation, you still have to interpret what the settings names have been changed to or what screens the buttons have been moved to in the latest flavor of non-backwards compatible Mac OS you are currently using.

If its any consolation, I dislike Microsoft operating systems more than I dislike Macs. Its fair to say that both actually suck in thier own special ways. ;)

Having a full computer that won't connect to a network in the field without any add-on peripherals won't do me any good, whereas the iPad can connect me to remote desktops that are full computers if needed.

Oh, I agree.. But the costs of the iPad would be MORE than the Surface if was a full PC and not ARM

Besides.. Most consumers aren't interested in cellular capabilities. Repeated studies have shown that most tablet buyers are selecting the Wi-Fi-only versions of the gadgets. During 2011, slightly les than one-third of all the tablet computers sold across the globe featured a built-in cellular modem, according to figures from ABI Research. And those who purchase tablets with cellular modems aren't necessarily using that capability. A recent report from Chetan Sharma Consulting found that 90 percent of tablet users are only using Wi-Fi, even if the tablets have cellular data capabilities. (Sharma's findings apply only to the U.S. market.) And tablets lend themselves to Wi-Fi scenarios. Though smartphones are carried and used everywhere--grocery stores, malls and in the car--tablets are reserved for "sit down and browse" situations. Such situations likely will occur where Wi-Fi is already available: Home, work and at the coffee shop or recreation center.

I was able to run all or most of my old programs (not games) that I had on XP. Even some of the DOS programs I wrote and was able to run the Windows 3.1 software.

But many weren't.. New drivers, new hardware, new software.. There was a LOT of people highly upset. Especially those whose KT333 chipsets didnt work after doing a OEM recommended upgrade to XP.

I don't think he meant no macs never have problems it just he hasn't had problems with his neither have I and I've been using Mac for close 6 years. 5 on my old MacBook Pro and close to 2 on my new retina Macbook pro. Never a virus on either and never any down time. They can get viruses yes but there are much fewer viruses for macs so its less if a problem. Why do some pc users like you get so upset when something good is said about apple? Do you see Mac and android users say OMG another pc user saying he likes his computer so annoying.... :rollseyes:

Along with 2 WinPhone8 phones, 5 PC's (Win8 x3, Win7, and a XP laptop)... but thanks for the Apple Fanboy personal attack.. :rolleyes:

Oh get over yourself you are the one that attacked someone for saying they have had no issues with their Mac. I'm not a fanboy I just support products that have done well for me be it Mac or kubota or JD or New Holland or ram trucks. I'm glad you like to call people names hopefully you grow up one day. I have more issues with pc's so I choose Mac and if you don't like it that doesn't bother me in the slightest.

OMG - Ram Trucks? :)

Yeah they are treating me much better than my newer fords have so far. They are the only one to my knowledge with two back up cameras. This is the 2nd camera it is in the center high stop light. Makes hooking up to gooseneck trailers very easy.

I've read a little about Windows 8, but can't get past the technical jargon. Can someone explain how it is different from windows 7? I read where it is a touch-screen system like they have on telephones and laptops? Pardon my ignorance, I don't have a phone, can't even answer my wife's without screwing things up. Thanks in advance;
My wife has a Sony Vaio Tap 20 all in one. It has a touch screen and came with Windows 8. She uses it for email and internet. It was a big learning curve for us senior citizens, but she likes it.

The Windows Mail is a hassle to keep synced to Gmail. Also could not keep it working wirelessly with our router, so I ran a cable to it, since she uses it as a desktop.

I am still on XP and a Dell Vostro 1700 laptop, looking at the Dell XPS18 touch screen all in one.
