I have a B & S Excel 6.5 horse pressure washer, I have used it 2-3 times a year for the passed 10, but I've also loaned it to friends/neighbors who also used it. The thing is, im real meticulous about maintenance on all my cars/equipment, but this pressure washer I just forgot about ever doing anything to but using it since new. Today I was washing my house, got about half done, and the washer didn't want to run, kept goin low on water pressure constantly, then would shut down. I would restart, same thing happened about 6 times. Finally it shut down, I pulled the starter, and it locked up, I actually picked up the whole thing by the pull cord. I took it in my shop, drained the oil for the first time ever, NO OIL in it, just smoke coming out of the filler and drain WOW. I called my buddy who fixes farm equipment and is a B & S technician, he says, its not worth fixing. I messed with it for like 10 mins, pulled the plug out, put penetrating oil in it and tilted it back to let it soak.
I decided after a little while it was shot, and I wasn't even gonna mess with it, because Friday night I saw a new Generac power washer on clearance for $201 down from $350 at my local home depot, I almost just bought it even though I didn't need it as it looked like a good deal. But I didn't. Well today I went back to buy it and it was gone. All the others comparable to mine were expensive, so I left sorta bummed. I came home, pulled the bottom off of the washer and found the crank comes out the bottom of the pump and has a bolt in it. So I turned it, and the penetrating fluid must have loosened it cause it turned stiff, but turned. The more I moved it, the more it turned free'er. Well I put some oil in it, and it fired up, and it ran like a champ. I went to my local home depot and got all the tune up stuff for it, spark plug, air filter, correct oil. It runs like new again, and I finished my house tonight. I cant believe it ran with no or almost no oil in it for so many start ups and time today. Gotta love that B & S, I thought it was dead for sure.
