A few days ago I bottomed out on a rock with the rear end of the BX. Nothing new rocked back and forth and passed over the rock. Took a look under the rear end no damage no problem. Well three days later I am scraping the ground clear of weeds and debris to park some skids of wood to age and I notice some liquid on the ground, figured it was water from some tarps I had just moved. Well next thing I know the bucket wouldn't raise :confused2: I notice there is a lot more water on the ground than before. I take a look under the tractor and there is oil pouring out from under the rear end. Quickly I get the tractor back to the garage, leaving a line of tractor blood in my wake, and put a bucket under the leak. I jack up the rear pull the tire, thinking I'm in for some big repair bill. I take a look and low and behold the drain plug is gone!:confused3:

Seems when I hung up on the rock the drain plug loosened and it took three days of running for it to finally fall out. Took out my metal detector and a trusty Harbor Freight magnet on a stick and start searching the dirt piles for the drain plug. Well after about fifteen minutes, success!:cool2: Well it was just about time for the 300 hour service anyway so off to the dealer for a set of filters and some hydraulic oil.

Great story Mate!

What kind of metal detector did you use? The 'security' type that you'd use for finding nails in recycled timber or the 'treasure hunting' type?

I may need to get one for the shop!

The metal detector was a 'bounty hunter' treasure hunting type. I've used it more than once to find lost hardware.

Love the metal detector idea! I lost a big chain a while back and should have thought of that. Lucky it was just a plug.

Having the proper equipment at the proper time:... Priceless! Even then the chances of finding that plug seem fairly slim.

Sometimes good things happen. Recently I started up my Kubota that was parked in the garage. The three point would not lift. The shifter handle was just flopping around loose. Turns out that a roll pin had fallen out right there under the tractor while it was parked in the garage.....didn't even need a metal detector to find it. But losing hydraulic fluid, that was a close call for you timster2.

I lost a big chain around 30 years ago and I still hope it'll turn up.

Sometimes you can find them either with a rotary cutter or a mulcher. :D
