Cleaning Sludge from the Sump with??

Any advice on how to clean the sludge?

You looking for a textbook type solution? Or just something 'quick and easy' for 'likely good enough'?

'likely good enough' would suffice for now. like use 'x' solvent, not 'y'.

I think you're safe to use about any of the various typical solvents (I don't wanna start a list that might upset the safety police), you just want to be sure it's all out before reassembly. I like using brake cleaner to hose such things out as a final clean before blowing them out with an air compressor and reassembling.

I'd probably try and stick with something a bit less combustible like kero or diesel, but honestly I'd say whatever works, the key is getting it all out.

Is that sump part of your tractor? If so, I'd go to my local auto parts store and get a container of whatever they sell for parts washing tanks. This is what is best for this type of work. This is what I used when I had my own foreign auto repair shop.

Is this a hydro transmission, or a gear transmission? The magic fluid on old Fords was a mix of ATF and Diesel or Kerosene run for 5-15 mins (just driving around a little) then drain.
