Woodchippers Canada - anyone have experience with these?

I have a friend that is interested in getting a chipper for use probably 2-3 times a year. He has a 25 PTO HP tractor, so at the low end of the range for this, but use will probably not be heavy. Another friend pointed him to this outfit, but I have never heard of them and a search here turns up nothing I could find in a reasonable amount of looking. It looks like they ship the US often enough to make a note of it on the ordering page. Given the light use, he doesn't want to spend a mint on one.

Any clues?

I would check to see where they are made. I think for a few bucks more you could get a brand that is highly regarded, and parts will be available forever like Wallenstein...

My Kubota B3300SU has 25-HP/PTO.

I run a Wallenstein BX42s chipper with great satisfaction.

Make sure your friend understands the difference between a chipper (only) and a chipper/shredder.

Wallenstein's equivalent chipper/shredder is the BXM42.

These attachments undergo a GREAT DEAL of stress. Buy the best you can afford. Wallenstein is one of the best regarded brands.

I bet that's the same chipper as this WoodMaxx 8" PTO Chipper - Mechanical Auto-Feed

I believe they are Chinese built chippers, but from what I've been finding in my research (I'm looking for a chipper also) they are not bad chippers for the price. If it's the same as the WoodMaxx it has a nice heavy flywheel, something only a few other brands in this size have. I'm also told the only difference between the 6 and 8" models is the size of the opening.

I have the woodmaxx 8" hydraulic feed. It looks nearly identical to the one you linked. It works excellent behind my 26 (pto) hp. Cub Cadet 7260 gear tractor. It does not work well behind my Kubota L3940 Hydro in fact 3 weeks ago I was chipping 8" hardwood and it would regularly stall the engine. The Cub Cadet has a much better recovery time once you stop the chipper feed; don't know why. I think for the home owner this chipper is a good value.
I love the chipper but one must tighten the bolts regularly.

Have you tried thread locker on it?

Not yet. The locking nuts use a metal tab and not nylock inserts. These are cheap Chinese locknuts. Next time around I will use blue Loctite.

Any disadvantage to getting the chipper/shredder as opposed to just a chipper in a line like the Wallensteins?

Only that the chipper/shredder is more complex.

The BXM42 chipper/shredder is the largest size Wallenstein chipper/shredder.

Have you tried thread locker on it?

Also consider Nord-Lock (brand) wedge-lock, anti-vibration washers from Sweden.

Grainger, Fastenal, etc stock them. I find it more convenient to buy Nord-Locks on eBay.

Nord-Locks are re-usable indefinitely, should you have to get inside that Woodmaxx.
