KUBOTA L3940HST BACKHOE
I've the grader but here is the issue. I bought this to help a local non profit boys camp maintain their one mile dirt road in Maine. Yes the road is rough but it is gravel with a few rock lobsters mixed in. So some rocks are a foot round up to 2 feet round. The grader with the times down 3 inches keeps pulling the ground tips off. The dealer said its a wear item. So when the tip is off the scarifier the scarifier shank wears down in no time so I need to replace that. $15 for a tip and 50 for a shank. All times 5 shanks pretty tough each time I use it. Anyone have better luck? Thanks. Mark

To start with, get your teeth for your shanks some place else. There is no way that you should be able to wear them out that fast. Get them from an industrial- commercial tractor source. It almost sounds as though the teeth are on the shanks upside down. The heavy part of the tooth needs to be contacting the ground as it gets pulled through the ground, not the formed part that holds the tooth onto the shank.

If you feel that you really need to be using the rippers, try having them in the ground at a shallower setting. If the road is really that rough, it's not like you are going to fix it in a single pass anyway. Obviously you need to get the bigger rocks gone. Just try working the road at a less aggressive rate, you may find that things go better for you.

Wish I could help more. :(

Good luck. ;)

Agri-Supply is where I buy rippers. $11 - $17 plus shipping.

There must be ag supply specialty stores in New England too.

Agree with that. With a mile of road, there are probably a lot of rocks like that, so it may take a while, but that backhoe would probably pluck them out pretty well. Maybe you could mark them as you grade and do a section of road at a time. The much costlier alternatives are building up more gravel or having a dozer or maintainer regrade the road.

A work project for the kids at the camp wouldn't be socially acceptable anymore, would it?
