I didn't read everything, buy how about tenths used in surveying and engineering plans. Foot/tenths/hundreds, took me while because we all naturally think in feet, inches ect. Once I realized a tenth is roughly 1.25" and a hundreth is an 1/8th of an inch it all became simple.

Some good, some not so good -but then it might have been (1.) the recipe (2.) my taste buds or (3.) using the smaller TBS when we should have used larger TBS - we will never know...... on recipes using the 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 TBS I think we got those right because we just looked at the fractions, not the fact it should have been tps. We did eat out a lot.

I give you 5, 3.33, 2.5, 1.66 and 1.25. Works very well with the appropriate smaller measurements (ie: Meter, Centimeter and Millimeter, Liter, Milliliter, etc). 1 Meter/3 = 33.3CM or 333MM. 1 Meter/6 = 16.6CM or 166MM.

Try that with fresh eggs. :laughing: Okay, I wasn't clear enough, but think way, way back to a simpler time. If there was a small quantity of something to be divided up, then groups of 12 works better than 10. Three people cut wood, each gets a third. Two, four or six people is no problem either.

That is just a theory anyways of how in the heck did we start using 12.

Ten is not without it's faults. Half of ten is five, a prime number, and it's all down hill from there for even divisions. To be very picky, ten things can't really be accurately divided into thirds due to 3.33333333333333333... etc.
