Oil & Fuel CK20 fuel filter change.

When doing a fuel filter change on a CK20 it says to "open the fuel vent cock on the injector pump". Where do I find this vent? Stumped !

The only shut off I use is the one located on the fuel filter assembly. If you get air introduced to the fuel system when changing filter you will have to bleed the air from the system. The bleeder screw is locate on the fuel pump on engine.

Do you mean the cock above the fuel filter? Turn to "bleed" (wing points to left) and crank the engine until the glass almost fills, then turn to run" (wing points down) and start the engine. The procedure is in your owners manual section 7. Hope that helps.

3.4.3 AIR BLEED BOLT

1. Check the fuel level in the fuel tank and fill the tank
with fuel if necessary.
2. Check the fuel level in the fuel filter is 2/3 or higher.
If not, loosen the air bleed bolt (8) and crank the
engine to bleed the system.
3. When air stops bleeding, tighten the air bleed bolt
and crank the engine.
4. If the engine still fails to start, loosen the nozzle
holder nut (9) or injection nozzle nut (6) and crank
the engine to bleed the system.
5. Tighten the loosened nut and start the engine.

My directions:
Now, if you changed your filter, did not bleed the air, and tried to start the engine, you will have lost your prime and trapped air in the system. To get past this, Purge the fuel filter using the directions above. Now on the head of the engine, loosen the nut holding the input fuel line on one of the injectors 1 to 1 1/2 turns. You do not want to remove it, just loosen it so air can be purged from the system.

Safety: Lock parking brakes, Transmission and transfer in neutral. Lock clutch in down position so the engine can be started while off the tractor.

Now, using your key, stand to the right side of the tractor and turn the engine over. Watch for fuel shooting from around the loosen injection input line. When you see fuel flowing out, stop turning the engine over. Note: the engine may try to start or start fully. Turn the engine off quickly and tighten the Injection line. Now start the engine. It will run rough until the other injection lines purge themselves of air. Re-inspect the injection lines for leaks after the engine is warmed. All done.

When I did mine just a few months ago, I just had to open the second screw on the filter housing and released the air, opened it and let fuel run out til the bowl was full and no air bubble, started right up. In the picture it is on the right hand side on the part labeled as (2).

like you, I changed my filter by opening the second screw also (during my 50 hour service). My filter housing has a little "A" etched by the screw. But once a person get air in the system, it complicates the process on most diesels.

Agree and thanks for putting up that diagram of the fuel system, handy to have around on the forum.
