L60 Series Stereo Installation

If it's any consolation Fred, which I truly doubt it is, my seat is a squeaking nightmare. No amount of spray lube even by two different guys, including the owner, at the dealership could kill the squeak. It's somewhere we can't get at apparently.
Maddening. Even comes through my headphones. And yes, my oem Kubota radio was generic low end junk slightly weatherized.

No issues with power on my 5740 so far...hydro whine reasonable(cab).
The reason your payment is so high is just like mine, a lot of money divided by 60, but at least it was zero interest.
No cost money is the cheapest money around.

Did you underbuy/underspec your tractor or did you get a lemon? Ever use a diesel supplement for the smoke?
I'm curious as to the hours on your tractor and how long this has been bothering you. wish you the best with it.

Nice install.

I just can't understand why you guys buy a new tractor and immediately replace the radio, seat, lights and whatever else to make the tractor more ....friendly?

I would be happier with more torque, less smoke, cheaper parts prices (from Kubota), and lets see less whine from the hydro unit.

Maybe I should have mounted a FEL and 3PH to my old 80s boom box....
Just sayin,

Fred with no power, a squeaky seat, radio that can't be heard over the noise of the hyro unit....and a big 5 year payment.

Others would just as likely wonder why someone who so obviously bought the wrong tractor, knows little about them, and ignores good advice stalks these forums whining louder than his HST about it; fix it or sell it and give everyone a break please.

I don't want to jack this thread it wouldn't be fair to the OP. Mine is a cab also. I bought this as a tool and yes it is underspec'd because it's all I could find as I didn't want a 60 series and I liked 0% interest so I bit. I almost bought a Kioti (dealer within walking distance of my place) but didn't because of the horrible stories I heard firsthand from a guy near here who bought a DK40 and broke (get this) 3 front diffs and the transmission twice in the first 300 hours. I won't even post the story it's just too unbelievable. He was without the machine almost 1 year while paying on it waiting for parts and it couldn't be lemon lawed because he bought it under commercial business therefore different laws apply for lemon law in this state.

I am in the process of installing a turbocharger and will post the story once I get the details figured out. I don't think it's a lemon just a bit heavy for the available power. It's just at the 50 hour mark. I've done everything to avoid using the machine because I don't like it; hopefully the power increase will change that then I can fool with the lights, seat, etc.

Fred

There are 5000+ lb 30 HP tractors. A L3940 would not be underpowered.

For some tasks, if I may poke in here. But hook that tractor up to a seven foot mower and try to go through three feet of grass uphill with a hydro sure might make it smoke...
Fred, can you comment on when you feel your tractor is underpowered? Have you dropped down a range in the hydro?
I once left mine in high by mistake and couldn't figure out why it was operating so poorly at slow speed.

I think if this was a geared tractor, it would be near impossible to overload it if simply run in the right gear. But hydro trans sucks power, and if you don't have an abundance to start with...
KCPO, unless you know this guy from somewhere else, I think you are being a little harsh. Not every one is happy about their tractor, and sometimes, heck, often..., we can't afford what we really want or need. So you do the best you can with what you have, and if you had to listen to a Kubota seat in full squeak, you might be a little more understanding.

Personally I'm wondering if with fifty hours, Fred might have operational issues we could help him with. Maybe not.
Fred, to repeat, what are you doing when you find your tractor inadequate? btw, I like the turbo option, just be careful with cooling. Larger radiator?

my apologies for going off topic.

You seem like a very nice person, so I have no wish to get involved in a disagreement with you. I stated my opinion after reading all of the poster's thread and ongoing posts where he brings his complaints into totally unrelated threads and have grown weary. Go read his thread on adding a turbo and following posts.

I felt his post was irrelevant and rude to the OP of this thread and so stated; you have a different opinion, fine.

FYI, I have hundreds of hours in different Grand L models with cabs.

I have little to no interest in becoming a regular poster here, so if you reply and I don't answer it is not out of rudeness, I just may not see it.

not sure how well you "know" him from other posts, but note I said UNLESS. Ok, your point is likely valid, but if you have no interest in being here, and only come to throw rocks at another member, well...

this poor thread has been hijacked and apologies to the OP. As someone who likes to listen to music while mowing, I'm very interested in any sound improvements that work for others.

Eric,
Very well done and documented for sure. I just purchased a Sony deck and 4" Alpine speakers and plan on installing them shortly.Wondering if you could provide the wire color codes as my unit was ordered without the factory stereo. I appreciate your help with this.

Thanks. The Farm Radio Supply adapter I purchased came with a printed chart, which provided this detail. It decoded the pin number on the plug to a colored wire on their adapter. I'm not sure if I still have it, but I'll see if I can find it.

If you can, it's probably best to buy the adapter since it plugs right into the factory harness and there's no need to cut anything other than mating it with the wiring harness that comes with your stereo (this is what I did.)

I replaced my four inchers with an upgrade and yes the midrange and highs sound cleaner. Low, well you sure aren't going to get anything under a 100hz with a four incher trying to push air. But I listen to music while I mow, with earprotectors on, so the highs are filtered out anyway, along with a lot of tractor noise. So I crank up the stereo, the speakers are clear and the oem radio at least does not break up when turned up, but a better radio would likely add even more clarity.

I wonder if anyone here has installed a subwoofer in their cab...
perhaps one of you likes pipe organ music...

Glad this thread reopened. Seat time is increasing, mowing to be done, tunes to be enjoyed.

I do wonder if the ultimate solution isn't just a pair of decent headphones jacked into the radio. Isolation/noise suppression and better quality audio all in one.
