Very Nice job!
Very nice job! I rarely see a tractor that brings to mind words like "beautiful" or "handsome" but yours does.....That is one good looking tractor!
Last year Luke and I finally got to restore an Allis Chalmers D17 series IV that my late grandfather used to drive. It has always been very special to me because he spent countless hours driving it. He passed away 30 years ago and I wasn't able to aquire the tractor until 2008.
My grandfathers hands wore through the cream colored coating on the steering wheel in certain spots to the black plastic underneath. So when I restored it I just cleaned up the steering wheel real good and sprayed clear coat on it to preserve my grandfathers hand prints.
Hey GeneD14... Beautiful tractors! My dad and his brothers were an Allis Chalmers dealer in Minnesota. I was about 14 when the D17 IV arrived on the lot. I just loved that tractor. A few years later when I farmed my grandfather's farm to pay my way through college, I had the opportunity to purchase a used D17 IV with factory three point hitch. I farmed for two years with it and traded it in on a new Oliver 1655. I wish I had kept that D17. A few years ago I purchased an Allis Chalmers 175 diesel with 505 hours on it. It's a dandy, but I still long for that D17. The 185 is actually a better tractor. The live PTO out shines the 175/D17 PTO system.
I also own a '57 AC D14 w/factory power steering (less than 2000 hours), a '54 AC WD45 sold originally by my father's company, a '38 un-styled WC and a '74 AC 620 with multiple attachments. Someday I hope to get them all restored and looking like your tractors. For now they are all working tractors, except the WC, on my pretend to be a farmer Minnesota farmland.
Go Allis Chalmers!
