Junior sized Rifle for my girlfriend

I love the 30-06 caliber, but Dear Sir, don't you think that the 30-06 is a tad too big? Correct me I'm wrong, but wasn't Remington sued by individuals and the Courts, due to Accidental Discharge Problems concerning the Model 700-CDL. If the problem has been corrected, please let me know. The last time that I checked, the problem still existed. Thanks in advance.

We also have a .243,but I load it with premium bullets for deer.It does work but shot placement is very critical. Our deer up north are somewhat larger than the deer in the south. Our older bucks dress weights are from 170-200 lbs+;live weights at 190-240 or so.I have seen bucks that scaled 250lbs.dressed shot in our area.I still vote for the 7mm/08,great ballistics and bullet choice.
My personal guns are 25/06,30/06 and .444 Marlin. With the 25/06 and Nosler Partition bullets I have shot deer from 10 yards(3000ft/sec and a true test of a bullet) to 300 yards.

Without knowing her it's hard to say but if it were me......

I think I would introduce Karen to a few rifles at the range first..... she needs to shoot the gun before she owns it. If the gun bites her the first time, she's probably not going to want to shoot it much. I would want her to find the rifle cartridge combination that she likes, then buy it for her.
7mm-08, .308, .257, .243, .243 wsm and 6.5x 55 might be good choices, but lighter rifles tend to deliver more felt recoil than heavy ones, and what she thinks is too much recoil might not seem like a lot to you or someone else.
You mentioned you thought the .22-250 was heavy but you didn't mention the weight of that rifle. How far is she actually going to carry this gun?
I wouldn't want to by a rifle for someone unless they were sure it was the one they wanted.
You should be able to find a .308 for her to try and see what she thinks about the recoil. BCP made a good point about that .308 cartridge but she may think the recoil is too much with a lighter rifle.

Also remember that semi auto gas operated guns soak up some recoil. But a lot of it just depends on how recoil sensitive she is. My wife was able to master the .243 in a Remington 700 no problem and she shot a 7mmRem Mag without complaint standing up but keep in mind also the position she will taking most shots in. Standing up or kneeling not too bad, but prone or off of a bench, not so good. Anytime you make the person and the rifle more solid, the more it hurts the shoulder. Not to mention if she gets a bad gun mount and the butt winds up lower down on her arm.. Ouch.. black and blue mark.:yell: But some folks seem not to be bothered by recoil much and others are very sensitive to it.

I got my wife a Browning A bolt 243 wssm and it's just right for her. She uses it for mule deer hunting.

If Karen is shorter, I'll add the Ruger 77 compact to the list to consider. It is what my 5'2" fiancé uses for deer hunting. Another rifle to consider is either the A-bolt Micro hunter or the new X-bolt micro midas.
