How much was the redesign kit? Did your local dealer have it and install it?

Well,I think I'm screwed. Got the deck off and raised rear end. Checked the steering cylinder rod distance-both sides are 68mm,which is what the WSM calls for. Left side rear wheel can't be turned by hand-good. Right hand side-spins w/ clicking noise-crap. I get the left side glide steer cable adjusted per the WSM specs. Right tire still spins w/ clicking noise when turned left,it should be locked.Here's the screwed up part-when I turn the wheel right, the right wheel locks instead of freewheeling. Tomorrow I will drain tranny oil and look for metal. Even when I push on lever on the case that the roller bearing rolls against,the right tire still freewheels w/ clicking noise. Need to decide what to do.Should've kept my Cub Cadet 3206-even though the deck sucks for grass buildup.
I don't really know how much it cost. Mine was slightly out of warrenty so Kubota supplied the parts (which included two new cables and sheathes, and I paid for labor which came out to about $250.00. Aside from the cables, I suspect the parts would not have been that much. It involved a little drilling and work from the dealer and it changed. The approach and departure angle of the cable connection so that it avoided that sharp kink in the cable during hard turns. It does sound like you've got other issues though...I never saw those. I hope you can get it resolved without having to sell your soul (so to speak). Good luck.

Drained the tranny oil yesterday-was a dark brown-hard to believe it only has 155 hrs. on it.Broke a 1/4" Craftsman 10mm deep well socket trying to get the suction tube bolts loose(thank you dealer)..... Only saw a few fine silver flakes in bottom of pan,no big chunks or anything. Took the strainer section completely off tranny,as I couldn't get strainer out(again,thank you servicing dealer)-I used some low-voc brake cleaner to spray the strainer out,followed by spray of penetrating oil,then used air to blow dry. I'm kinda leaning toward the steering clutches being hosed.

Kubota really messed up on the early GRs. I bought my first Kubota, a 9200 in 1988, then a 2150, then a L3130 and have had two RTV 900s, and now a BX 2660.
I had more trouble in one year with the GR then all the others combined. In fact I don't remember any trouble with any of the others except regular service.

Hi Guys,
I've just now joined this site mainly to see if I was on my own. I live in a small city in New Zealand where I think there is only one other GR2100 and that is owned by the local authority parks department and therefore have had nothing much to measure my experiences against until I read this thread. I've had my 2100 for 6 years and 750 hrs and like you have had nothing but grief with the transmission. A hose blew off at less than 200 hrs and left it stranded in a pool of trans fluid but was at least covered by warranty. It then gradually lost oil (ok I wasn't checking the oil level regularly as it was still near new) until the PTO clutch blew. This cost NZ$1200 to fix as the entire clutch had been superseded by an upgraded unit due to known problem with PTO clutches failing when the oil level has fallen too low, thus it wasn't possible to simply replace the clutch plates. I'm not making this up I was shown the service bulletin. Since then I've been paranoid about checking the oil level and have spent about another $1200 plus 4 returns to the dealer plus 8 weeks non use over the last year trying to track down leaks, one of which was oil spraying out of the breather. Last week the input shaft flogged itself out destroying both transmission casings. I had the drive shaft checked for balance and it was fine, the dealer put it down to bad design on Kubotas part given the length of the shaft and noted that parks dept mower had done the same at about the same hours. Kubota through the local agents have agreed to supply casings at cost which however include new axle shafts bearing and seals due to those being redesigned I suppose due to more "known problems". In short I'm pissed off (I believe Americans say "pissed" but in NZ that means drunk) with Kubota for not alerting me to the issues with the GR2100 transmission. Why should the customer be used as the product developer with out being told?

Welcome to the forum, I do wish it was under other circumstances though. All I can say is that I feel your pain. There were defiantly design problems with the GR. I got rid of mine at about 220 hours for that reason. I agree with your sentiments...Kubota put this thing out on the streets long before it was ready. I understand the later ones (post 2007?) Were fixed. Good luck, I hope you find a solution.

Weird stuff-when I have all 4 wheels in air-engine running and going forward or reverse-when I turn all way left,left rear wheel continues to spin-when I turn all the way right,the right rear wheel disengages-all this w/ no grinding,clunking,etc. With engine off-the left rear is locked then can be turned by hand once the steering wheel is turned to a certain point-the right rear never disengages w/ engine off-but when it's on ground,chatters and binds
I ended up mowing 1/2 my lawn before I ran out of time-I'm just trying to do right turns as much as possible w/wheel turned fully right-no binding then.Left turns and slow right turns without stopping right rear wheel binds and chatters like crazy.Not sure at this point in time if I want to sink more money in it,only to have it crap out in a year or two. I am debating on whether to sell it now while it still moves as is and let buyer know problem with it,or see what the dealer I bought it from would give me on it toward something different.I'd really like a JD X740, but not sure if I want to spend that much for a mower again.Earlier this year when I was getting trade-in values,varied anywhere between $1800-$3400-pretty disgusting for an $8k machine-I know JD's hold their value MUCH better.

If it were me,I would have taken the tractor to the dealer to have it diagnosed at the first hint of a problem.Can't imagine trying to use it that way.I'm confused on the hours of the unit.You stated 570 in post 7,then 155 in post 14.Also.are both springs in place on each side re the glidesteer clutch levers?.

Thank you for your kind words. Mower was supposed to be ready today, hooked trailer on van and dashed in to dealer with high anticipation (actually no) mechanic sez "see all that oil on the floor?" yes you guessed right, not ready yet. Appears when they started it up the gland on the end of a pipe has failed. So get another gland one would think, 50c from a plumbers merchant. No this gland is metal and brazed onto the pipe so we need to order a new pipe from Australia which is where Kubota keep their regional parts store. So Tuesday at the earliest now and no idea of cost as all the parts needed have had to be paid for in Aussie dollars which is very strong versus the NZ$. It would be much cheaper to get the parts direct from the States with relatively weaker US$ but as I've learned to my cost freight charges and delays can wipe out any advantage.
