GR2100 Kubota
Great Machine But Transmission Issues Are A Real Downer
Model Year: 2009

My dad has owned one of these for several years now for mowing about 1 acre and snow blowing a 300-foot long driveway. I personally have used the machine many times and its performance is fantastic. The mower has a great looking cut. The Kubota snowblower attachment is unbelievable and will throw 50 or more feet with ease. It's like a goose-tail on a high performance boat. I've never seen a snowblower throw like this. The engine has been bullet proof and has plenty of power. However, these units have a history of transmission problems, of which my dad wasn't aware until he had the problem himself. I believe the biggest issue was with leaks that resulted in burned out transmissions. On my dad's, for some crazy reason, the mechanical power take-off clutch failed and blew a hole in the transmission case. My Dad and I went back and forth on whether to trade or repair. Due to the cost of implements and new machines he decided on a repair. The new transmissions appear to be upgraded. The frame had to be modified slightly, and the power take-off is now hydraulic. Supposedly the bugs that plagued the earlier units have been corrected. I will say the power take-off lever is much smoother to engage now. The Glide Steer cables were also replaced due to being worn out (which was another issue). The new ones lie on a rerouted path that doesn't put as much stress on them. However, I think on the GR2120 the cables were actually replaced with a solid rod. My dad swallowed hard on the repair and was very discouraged as Kubota provided no assistance for the $3,000 bill on a machine that has known transmission issues. However, we both agree that at least for now the repaired machine has been operating flawlessly for over a year and we're enjoying the same fantastic performance as before the transmission issues.

Pros: Powerful, fuel efficient, snowblower is amazing
Cons: Transmission issues and Glide Steer cables that plagued this model are really disheartening

The transmission died before I wore my first set of mower blades out. Kubota never notified us about faulty design. It was $2400 to repair.

Pros: Strong diesel engine, 4-wheel drive
Cons: Junk drive train

GR2100 Kubota
Kubota GR2100
Model Year: 2005

I bought mine mid 2014. It was used and in good repair with excellent and warranted Kubota dealer maintenance by the original owner (my next door neighbor). We knew he had maintained the Kubota very well and that it had only a slow starting oddity at that time. Since then, several bolts have broken, showing normal wear and they were easily replaced. My very tall, long legged wife hates getting her knee hit by the steering wheel on turns, but otherwise loves the ride. We both appreciate the cutting ability and ease of steering wheel control.

Pros: Hydraulic steering, economical diesel,
Cons: Frequent small repairs and now a much needed deck adjustment, reason unknown, the front hood has deteriorated and is falling apart although the tractor is only in sun when in use - about six hours a month for the life of tracto

Has performed very well. Left front deck wheel has been only issue---replaced three times, not sure why. Only two attachments available and very expensive. Easy to service except for rear fuel filter. Deck has to be pulled out from under machine to service blades, belt, gearbox.

Pros: All wheel drive, HST.
Cons: Expensive grass catcher, snow blower.

GR2100 Kubota
Avoid ALL GR2100's!
Model Year: 2007

Throwing in the towel. Dealer "fixed" right rear axle seal @ 415 hrs. and supposedly "upgraded" this POS tranny at the same time. Well, fast forward to 578 hrs.---tranny is again leaking oil slowly from somewhere. The right rear wheel has NO power at all (3 other wheels spin on snow), and binds enough to stop mower in it's tracks occasionally, and replaced both glides steer cables (again). $1,200 to fix 15 hrs. out of warranty 3 yrs. ago (ended up being $750 after "discount"). Also, the shaft coming out of tranny that receives power from engine has play in it also. Very disgusted w/machine. I'll miss the diesel engine, but not the headaches that they put with it. Going back to a Cub maybe or a used JD diesel if I can find one. I take care of my equipment/do not abuse it.

Pros: Diesel, AWD.
Cons: Poor transmission, quality, cables for glide steer.

GR2100 Kubota
Kubota GR2100 Poorly Engineered
Model Year: 2007

I'm waiting for the next breakdown. With less than 100 hours, I had the transmission housing replaced under factory recall, and it took two long visits at the dealer to get it right. Very soon afterwards, less than 10 hours, the cables that control the rear wheel drive broke. Under yet another factory recall, I paid dealers cost for the cable set and installed it myself. There is no discernible difference in the new cables, only the way that they mount to the front axles. They will probably last longer than the originals due to the new mounting position, but since the factory did nothing to improve the cable itself, it is only a matter of time and they will probably break again.

Pros: Solid diesel engine, hydraulic deck, comfortable seating position.
Cons: Reliability, quality of the cut not consistent even with new blades. Cannot be moved unless it is under power.

Before, I had a Cub Cadet diesel. Had a hard time getting used to pedal for throttle. But overall, tractor is not so bat, except for G-steer cables which are a very difficult to change and no way you can a just them, no marks nowhere! I am in my 6th cable change! The rest is okay. Weakest part of mine is my snowblower. Had all kinds of problems with it. Mower is okay and works well.

Pros: Starts well in sub zero even not plug!
Cons: G-steer, very bad invention! I live far from garage, so I have to all maintenance myself.

Solid build, poor collection on wet long grass, requires electric power take off for sprayers etc., need to develop powered towed sweeper. Edge of deck to be redesigned to prevent feet slipping when mounting/dismounting. Bag full indicator is poor and did not last long, needs redesign.

Pros: Solid build, good engine.
Cons: Poor pick up wet long grass.

GR2100 Kubota
Bad Experience with Kubota
Model Year: 2005

My GR2100 worked great for the first 100 hours, and was meticulously serviced. When I changed the fluid in the front axle, I noticed a lot of silver "glitter" in the old oil. Soon afterwards, I found the machine sitting in a pool of oil that had escaped from the right rear axle seal. The eventual fix was a new case from the dealer, which, thankfully, Kubota covered. It took the dealers mechanic two shots to get it done correctly. Following this issue, the drive shaft from the rear axle to the front came apart. It is poorly supported and held together by a "c" clip. I don't know if these issues are fixed on new machines, but they are not acceptable.

Pros: Diesel engine, good power.
Cons: Bad engineering.

Home Owner
Model Year: 2005

I have a Kubota B2910 and decided to purchase the GR2100 because of Kubota reputation and my own experience with my B2910. I have had numerous problems with the GR2100. Rear transmission problems within one year and again, finally got it fixed. Have had problems with one rear wheel tearing up grass when turning. Got fixed and happened again soon thereafter. Fixed again and is sounding and feeling like it may happen again. As a result, lost a lot of work time due to being in shop. I know Kubota had problems with most GR2100's due to being first production year. Could not recommend it. Have spent about $2,000 on it, averaging over $300 a year. I don't think that is acceptable.

Pros: It is a Kubota.Glidesteering.
Cons: Seems to run slow. Not reliable. Problems probably due to being a new design.

GR2100 Kubota
Disappointed....
Model Year: 2007

I bought this new in 2007. Parking brake wasn't working properly after purchase-had to fix myself, dealer no help-poor pre delivery inspection. Year 2008-needed new deck belt. Can't remember if it was 2008 or 2009 - deck pulley had wobble-compared to new pulley at dealer parts counter. They saw how it was cockeyed when turning - luckily wasn't charged for new one. Summer of 2008-mower gear box seal starts leaking and flinging oil on deck. Paid off March 2011. Left glide steer cable breaks during first mowing of the year. Luckily I found a cable (only 1 dealer out of 5 I called had 1 in stock) - ordered 2 from local dealer to have backup-took 3 weeks to get in. Then last week I go in garage by mower-3 foot puddle of tranny oil on floor! Cleaned up and discovered right axle shaft seal leaking-starts leaking as soon as I wipe it clean. Called local dealer(not where I purchased-that dealer only cares about selling, not servicing)-tech there said real PITA to do-real tricky to seal tranny case back up-minimum 10-15 hrs labor to change seal. So, I'm looking at close to $1k to change a frickin' seal - not happy. I take care of my equipment, and these kinds of problems I've had w/ a machine that was over $8k when I purchased is very disappointing. The only good qualities are the fuel consumption, AWD, and the tight turning radius.

Pros: Fuel efficiency, turning radius, AWD.
Cons: Poor quality, poor dealer service (where purchased).
