Replace PTO Shaft on Ford 501 Sickle Mower

/ Replace PTO Shaft on Ford 501 Sickle Mower #11
I would apply some lubricant on the inside of the PTO shaft, let it sit overnight, then attach one end to an immovable object and the other end to a come along attached to an immovable object. Apply light pressure slowly, heat may help. They might actually slip apart! If they do come apart then clean both parts (male and female) very well and grease liberally.

I had this same issue in the past and I am still using the PTO shaft today. Sometimes they just rust together a bit from sitting outside and you have to advise them nicely to seperate.

I got it unstuck.... PB blaster soaking for a while. Then, put feet against mower and pulled shaft with left hand while tapping shaft with a hammer in my right hand.... Sanded with sandpaper, lubed and now it slides like a trombone.

Thanks for the help all!

Do you have the 2 cast triangular arms and the 2 clamps that attach where the lift arm pins go through? Ken Sweet

Sorry to hijack but can you tell me what the big spring does that connects to the top link? Mine is missing but I don't understand its purpose. Also is there a way to adjust the blades so they touch the stationary blades? You can see what I mean in my pictures.

The spring acts as a shock absorber of sorts that protects the mower when hitting a foreign object. The sickle needs to lay flat in the bar and shimmed down with the spacers under the toe clamps. Once the sickle is down and level, peck the rock guards with a hammer to get them to touch the sickle. Some may be high and some may be low. Ken Sweet

I got the triangle bracket and clamp for the left side only. I have the right bracket but the part with the circle is broken. No clamp for the right side.

I know this is an old thread but thought I'd ask here rather than start a new one. Can anyone tell me if the tractor end of the pto shaft is male or female? The mower half on mine is male. I ordered one on eBay what was supposed to be the tractor half. I wasn't paying attention and when it came it's also male. Would this have changed over the years they were made? My mower is blue and the ordered part is red. If by chance someone has a functional, female, tractor half shaft they want to sell, I'd for sure be interested.
