GC2610 TLB and Snow

Anybody using a 24/2600 series TLB for snow removal? What tires do you have if so and do you find chains necessary, or does it do pretty well with the weight of the backhoe only? My dad has a BX25 with loader only and that thing does pretty well without chains and R4s without any added weight on the back.

Hi boutym, I use chains on all 4 R4 tires that are filled with rimgaurd. I also built a weight box, approx. 500 pounds. The chains help me mostly with steering as we have an iced over driveway from Oct/Nov to April. BTW snow for today and a low of 17 degrees F for tonight,. KC :D :D :D

I use turf tires and they work well for me, but I have a front-mount blower so I'm clearing my path as I go.

I need R4's with Rimguard, 600lb weight barrel AND chains to blow my driveway, but then again my driveway is very steep. The bh actually makes me bounce as I climb the driveway as it's too heavy.

Pixguy, you might be surprised at how well turfs work on snow. I used to keep the BH on for increased traction --and it works very well for that-- but I also have a steep driveway and found the front end would float on the way uphill. Steering was almost non-existent; the tractor just followed the contours of the driveway crown, whichever side I happened to be on. Made for a lot of mid-slope "aiming adjustments" on the way up!

I left the BH off last winter as a trial, and found I could go uphill and still control it. It did make me use 4WD more for traction, but hey-- that's what it's for. In any case, it worked well (and was certainly more maneuverable, being several feet shorter in the rear!).

How steep? It a couple of sections, my driveway hits 12-15 degrees of slope. I also have "plain" (unfilled) tires, and chains, though I've never used them... yet. WBB

How steep? I had 3 pavers refuse to touch my 400' driveway due to the grade and one said it was over 20degrees. GMI, our state highway pavers finally paved and it is much better, but at 16k 8years ago, it should be! My ride up is much better with just the barrel compared to the bh.

Then how could I get this view? DSCF0011 LR.jpg

Actually, I don't spend the whole winter up on the side of the mountain, I head to FL of a few months. :sun:

With any snow clearing machine, a tractor or a walkbehind blower - your traction comes from cleared snow path . this does two things - less slippery materail to drive on and prevent high centering with snow upward force of deep snow. I wouldn't worry about type of tires you got, the method of clearing snow. The question is can you get started in a clear path?

Nice.

The view is really nice on top of a ski mountain too, but I don't want to live there.

Your choice.
