WoodMaxx PTO Chippers

I have a WoodMaxx mechanical feed 8 inch model. No issues so far. I was impressed with the overall quality of the parts when I was putting it together. And the WoodMaxx customer service folks were absolutely great in dealing with a minor issue that I had with one part. (Hidden shipping damage - Woodmaxx sent me a replacement part no questions asked!)

No questions asked seems to be a re-occurring theme with Woodmaxx! One of the reasons I bought one!

I received my Woodmax WM-8H chipper yesterday and got it put together this morning. It took about 3 hours to check that all the bolts were tight and get it assembled. It is quick hitch compatible, with some minor modifications. I had to raise the center (upper) hook on my quick hitch to properly engage it to the chipper, only to find out that the included PTO shaft would not be long enough. I ended up taking my QH off so the chipper was closer. Once I did that, the PTO shaft didn't need any modifications at all. I only had a couple of minor issues during assembly and nothing requiring me to call the company for help.
I only had about 30 minutes to use it this afternoon. Overall I'm impressed. I'm glad I bought the hydraulic model. It made quick work of the pine branches I had lying around. A couple were 5-6 inches in diameter and it converted them to chips in short order. I can now clearly see why some have recommended getting an 8" chipper. It makes feeding branches in so much easier and the hydraulic feed just pulls them in. Watch out for the assist bar though, I fed a large branch in and the bar clunked me on the head when the upper feed wheel moved up to accommodate the larger diameter branch. Only need to do that once!:p

I cut (shortened) my drive shaft to the correct length, according to the Woodmaxx instructions. Later, added a quick hitch which necessitated a longer shaft. My solution was purchasing a PTO extender.

Amanda at Woodmaxx inquired about my quick hitch issue and suggested that I might need the i-match top link to fit my QH. She is sending it to me at no cost to give it a try. It will require me to purchase a longer PTO shaft if it does, but will make hooking it up a breeze. Again, another example of great service from Woodmaxx.

Took a video clip of my chipper yesterday. Here is the link

Woodmaxx Chipper Clip

Hope this works -- just uploaded it to YouTube.

I've had my chipper for a year now and seems to run well --
Two minor problems - The handle that rotates the chute seems to be failing and I lost a screw-in grease zerk on the drive shaft. Otherwise good.

Thanks for revisiting the thread and posting this for future searches. Also, thanks for putting material > 1" through the chipper. Most every video out there has people feeding tiny crap into the chute, leading me to believe that those particular choppers will not handle much. The Wallenstein videos on YouTube are actually decent, another reason for my consideration.

I'm in the market for a chipper, and torn between the mechanical feed Woodmaxx and the Wallenstein BX42. I love the idea of direct drive, but not the idea of explaining the extra $$$ to the wife.

Took another video this weekend -- using a different camera angle -- same type of material, some branches and some leafy tops. Later in the day I chipped scores of willow trees -- nice and straight -- made for chipping.
