I wonder what he did to accidentally provoke the coyotes? Feed them?

Sucking air and being there?.. I think they looked at him as breakfast.

"he thought he might have accidentally provoked them" and did not want the coyote's put down. As Bugs Bunny would say "what a maroon" Not only did he not have a gun, he did not even have a knife..What flavor of moron walks the road at night without a good knife?... I do not understand that kind of behavior. And I have to ask, this, how in the heck do they know they killed 2 of the coyotes that attacked him? Just because they were in the area? Did they check their Id's? Clothing description of the coyotes? Give me a break.. the whole story is typical of news stories. Full of sensationalism, and liberal crap. yeah, yeah, I know, I am an old curmudgeon with a bad attitude, but at least I have a knife at all times, and and a nice handgun on me most of the time.

Knife? I don't no need knife. I can take three coyotes with my bare hands. I can rip them scrawny legs off one-by-one if they get close enough. :dance1:
Somewhat surprising, we have lots of coyotes in my area and rarely see them.

Probably because they get hunted just like they do here. A 'yote will vanish as soon as it becomes aware a human is nearby. Being in a populated area these coyotes probably had no fear of people and were used to them. Pretty big step attacking a human though. Wonder if they were raiding the garbage or the local cat population and he surprised/'cornered' them?
