What's your favorite Honey?

I love the Tupelo honey from Wewahitchka Florida. My cousin married into the first family of Tupelo honey men, the Lanier's. They have been taking their hives down the Chipola and Apalachicola Rivers when the Tupelo are blooming for 115 years. Here is a link to their site L.L. Lanier and Son's Tupelo Honey - Ulee's Gold - Wewahitchka, Florida Since 1898.

But because of the price, I eat more clover honey than anything else. Since the movie Ulee's Gold came out, Ben and Glynnis have been selling so much honey it is hard to get any of it.

I have to agree about Tupelo honey.... My friend in Fla. sent me a jar... It has a flavor that is hard to describe, very complex and delicious....
Second is Fireweed honey... both beat third place but a fair distance....

There was a gallon jug about three quarters full of Tupelo honey left after a wedding at my work. I called the folks and they came back and got it. But they left me a quart jar full. I add two teaspoons of honey along with a teaspoon of cinnamon to my morning coffee every day, but I use the clover for that and save the Tupelo for biscuit sopping.

It looks no less a poet than Van Morrison would agree with you:

You can take all the tea in china
Put it in a big brown bag for me
Sail right around the seven oceans
Drop it straight into the deep blue sea
Shes as sweet as tupelo honey
Shes an angel of the first degree
Shes as sweet as tupelo honey
Just like honey from the bee

I like Sourwood honey, but it is hard to find around Jacksonville Fl.

Wild flour would be my second choice, and I get a gal for $30. Use it mostly in coffee and pancakes

What is everyone paying for their honey.

The local groceries are selling a quart for $10 to 12.

I pay about $12 for five pounds of Canadian clover honey at Sam's Club. I have blocked the price of the Tupelo from my memory.

Be careful buying honey from big box stores and store chains. If you eat a lot of honey it's a good idea to buy it from your local beekeeper. Local honey is rumored to have side benefits too, for allergies and such. Costco, SAMs, Safeway, etc. all sold illegal Chinese "honey" recently.

I sell pints for $6. Seven bucks if it's comb honey and $8 for dark.

Right now I have some "Great Value" (store brand) Clover Honey from Walmart. According to the label, it's a "Product of USA" and U.S. Grade A 100% Pure Honey. It's also labeled "True Source Certified". You can look up the meaning of that easily enough. But anyway, it tastes good and it's relatively cheap. But at least our local Walmart also stocks and sells local honey. I don't recall the actual prices, but I know the local honey is much, much more expensive. Is it worth it? I don't know. May be.
