Help!!!!!
I own a Massey GC2310, Backhoe and loader included. I posted a month or two ago about my hydraulics going down. Since then I now no for sure it is the hydraulic Pump and pump gear in the transmission. Don't tell me how much work is involved the astronomical cost etc. I spent two weeks tearing this machine down and my nephew pulled the pump. I have yet to buy the parts as I'm in a battle with Massey for now. It is exactly as described in a blog from (hknapp GC2310 Wrong Pump Installed, on 7-27-2008) a must read for all you owners. My pump is serial number GPY10R708 Shamadzu. The same as (hknapp) My tractor ser# is NT1164. Built in 2005. These pumps were short shafted. They only went into the pump gear about 1/2 inch and what they do is under the force of work start to spin off the splines on the shaft and at the same time spin off the female splines inside the transmission. I had a catosropic failure according to my nephew. (my nephew is a certified tractor mechanic), When we pulled the suction screen filter under the pump it was full of metal shavings and grey grafite type stuff. My nephew said that would be my from the pump shaft decintergrating under load. The transmission housing that holds the pump gear is full of orangish colored stuff like rust. The gear and bearing actually look like they went dry as it did not appear to have oil on them. We are ready to drop the transmission off the frame and open the HST cover to see how much damage is done inside. I only have 300 hours on this machine. Garage kept and babied to a fault. I no it is out of warranty and I am 90% to 98% sure Massey new this was a manufacturing defect. They changed the pump shaft in 2006 models. (imagine that), I will hold on to what I was told by my dealer and Massey until I have all the information in. For now I would like to know who of you "including dealers" would come forward and tell me if they had the same problem and what they did and or what Massey did to help them out. Please help me any way you can. This a "Latent Defect" and should have been recalled. I was lucky to be on flat surface when it went down. The power steering is on the same line and if I would have been going down hill or on a slope with the load of dirt that day, I would have been screwed, because I had no power steering just strong arm. Try that loaded on a slope. Thanks. guy's/gal's.

I may have a very similar problem. My tractor (Massey 2310) is at a shop right now in Albany, NY. They first looked at the pump, ordered a new one and then started talkingot me about splines. I am headed over there tomorrow to see the problem first hand. Your post is very helpful and informative. I did NOT buy my tractor from a dealer, I bought it from an individual, so am concerned about getting any help from Massey. If you get any backing for this, I will be interested in providing input and hopefully getting help too.

Hi digginwillie, Well if your 2310 is 2005 or before I guarantee you have a bad pump gear and now a bad pump. I kept my old pump gear and old pump to remind me of just how evil some companies really are. Massey new this early on. When mine went down I called my dealer. He would not admitted to me that Massey new. Until I told him how much I new about the defect and the people on this blog who new about it also. He finally told me they had replaced about 5 so far. The Massey rep my dealer hooked me up with also admitted the problem after and hour on the phone and really knowing my stuff. If you do not know what you are talking about, they will never admit it. Since my machine was several years out of warrantee they told me I had no recourse. I told them this was a "LATENT DEFECT" they new it was and never took action.
I told them I was willing to sue in the area were I bought it from, Richmond VA. My dealer apologized until the cows came home. He bent over backwards to make things right. Massey finally conceded also. I settled for the parts replaced. Massey gave me a 25% discount on the new pump and reengineered pump gear. My dealer got the parts at his cost and did not charge me a dime more than he paid. All told I think the parts alone were about $780.00. I ended up some where in $400.00 range for the parts. Now the bad news. If you are not able to fix it yourself, then you may end up in 5 to 6,000 range. The new or correct pump gear has a longer female shaft to accommodate the male spline shaft that goes into it. They also bored a seep whole in the pump gear to finally get Hydraulic oil into and around it. Mine rusted because of lack of oil. The new gears are way better. You must have a full repair manual or don't even try to attempt it yourself. I'm lucky, I have two certified tractor repair mechanics in our family and I have the berries to tackle the tear down. It is know easy task. My dealer told me that every thing built in the subcompact line 25 horse and under is Japanese made. You can only get an American made over that rating. I have since replaced every hydraulic hose on my loader/backhoe, power washed every part on the entire machine and this thing kicks *** for it's size. Next tractor is definitely an American made product though. Good luck to you. Don't let them BS you into believing they didn't know.

You should of lost your drive also. IMO that alone should make it a factory recall based on a known safety issue!

Hello to all,
Well I have a 2006 GC2310 with the same problem, SN JRA 20431. and it just happen 12-2019
The Warrenty is up a long time ago, but this problem sounds just like all the ones above.
My tractor has 802 hours on it, while using it, lost the hydraulics for the loader and steering, my buddy was using it, and was able to drve it to the barn to park inside. I
went to check to see if it was a simple fix, all hoses good, changed the transmission oil, now I have no movement. pulled the suction screen and found metal shaving on the screen and inside tank. Got tractor back home to work on it in a warm garage.
I pull the pump off and the splined are worn the first 1/2" and the grear inside is also worn.
inside the gear it is rusty, I read on one of the post the gear needed a weep hold for oil to get onthe shaft (from factor not done)
Is this the same problem mention above? the Pump number is GPY-10R708 .

I see the one tractor was repaired in Albany at my dealer, How did you make out with the cost, what did they do for you?
I have the tractor torn down and working on removing the transmission, should I STOP the work and send it to the dealer?
Can I pull the front case off the front with out droping the transmission?
also while spinning the input shaft, the pump gear does not spin, I'm thinking I have more problems inside?

Just like David post, I'm see the same sofar.

The Back Hoe is still on, I dont think I need to remove and if I due need to remove, not sure how to with out the hydraulic?

How and or what will the Dealer/Massey do for me? and iformation would help me take the next steps.
i see only a few post, But how many of the tractors failed, all, most?
I know the tractor is 13-14 years old, but failures like this shoud not happen, I work my tractor, but I do take car if it.
Thanks
JP2

I just got the transmission out, it comes out the back, the back hoe and the back hoe supports has to be removed, plus every thing else, this is a time consuming job. I have 10-12 hours into to it already, I did pull the pump first to check to see if I had the short shaft, I did and the Pump is the Shimadzu GPY-10R708. My Serial Number is JRA20431 as i mention above.
My Tractor is a 2006, and has two problems, so the issue was not corrected in all the 2006 models.
The pump shaft is short and look like lack of Oil getting onto the splines and the gear, look rusty and is stripped and the bearing is rough.
The I spun the main input shaft, the hydraulic pump gear did not turn either.
Once i split the transmission, I found all the problems.
The Hydraulic Pump is the short shaft, and looks like oil in not getting into the gear and bearing correctly, similar to David644 post.
The main input shaft from the HST to the inside of the transmission, spline wore, looks rusty also, but gear spline are better, and bearing is rough. possible oil issue also.
The bearing for the Lower spline gear on the HST going into the transmission the bearings are rough.
I visit the dealer and they are contacting the Massey Ferguson Rep. to see what can be done, from the parts needed I looking at 1,200.00 to 1,400.00 at least, plus seals and O-rings. My labor is free.
I hoping they will cover the parts to some degree or ALL of them. I"m lucky that I am able to do the work my self. From David644 post they needed to add weep holes for oil to get to the splines. I did ask my Dealer to get the information needed to correct the problem with any modifications that will need to be completed.
I hope to hear something soon.
To all other out there, what did they get covered by Massey and/or the dealer?

Thanks
JP

Does anyone with the 2310 have pictures or instructions for taking out the pump. I the floor plate out and see the pump. In let side has a valve bolted on top and the out let side has something bolted on the bottom. And looks like t 2 hydraulic pipes need to be removed to remove the pump. Any instructions on removing these items to get down to the bare pump would be helppful.
