mf 1710
Hi. just bought a mf 1710. Have 65 acres of mountain terrain. have a flat area about 100' x 100' I need to clear out to store a boat, beater truck, and firewood. Anyone have experience clearing trees. The 1710 only has 25 hp but seems enough to clear stumps about 12" in diameter. Impressive so far. I remember my dad and I use to spend days removing stumps that large by hand. Also, what sort of oil should I use. It reads 5/w/30. Can or should I use synthetic?

:welcome:Welcome fellow Canadian. What part of Ontario are you from? You will love your tractor as it is just a newer version of mine and I love mine. I also use Rotella 10W30 ( that's what my manual calls for). Don't know if you need to use synthetic though, but I don't think it would hurt the tractor just your pocket book.:2cents:

Hi Bookert22,
Welcome to TBN, I have taken out stumps up to 24" diameter + -, with the backhoe, just go slow and easy so nothing breaks, :2cents:. Yes, a lot of us are using Synthetic Amsoil, and others are using other brands, do a little searching and you will find lots more information then I can remember, :mur:.

I love the BH on this thing, I am so glad I forked over the extra $$ for it. I have also removed large tree stumps up to 24" diameter. Key thing is to use the bucket cylinder for torque as much as possible. I usually dig down around and break the roots first. Then lift the trunk out of the hole and if I can lift it with the loader-push it.

this thing continues top impress me. have owned it a couple months now and have completed cleared about 3000 sq ft. of forest. many trees were 1-2 feet in diameter. I have almost 30 hours on it and would like to do a first maintenance now as I have pushed it quite hard. Again it is a 1720 TLB. The dealer wants $320 to do the first maintenance but can't believe the fluids and filters would come close to that. Any tips on doing it myself?

It's very easy to do yourself. I've just completed the 250 hr service on my GC 2400.

The best tip I can give is ....the left rear tire does not need to be removed to access the tranny drain/filter screen. It can be wiggled towards the axle, and will slide right out. I also run a magnet(pen type, or spring type) into the drain hole to remove excess metal. The tranny holds 2.9 gallons of fluid.

I'm starting a thread on the 'shards of metal' that are welded to my filter screen.

P.S. Don't lose the two rubber O-rings that are on the filter screen/drain plug.

The post that keeps on giving! I just bought a 2009 GC2410 with 400 hrs. About to do a refresh on the hydro and wondered about needing to take the tire off. Looked like it would come out, but more comfortable with the wheel out of the way. Glad it's not a must. And where is the thread on the metal shards? I'm also curious about the state of that filter...
