Want a new laptop but do I want Windows 8?

I've got win 7 on an HP touchscreen. For some reason the screen goes blank/black randomly, requiring a reboot. Not sure of the cause.
Been using Android, via phone, for 3 years and haven't had any trouble.
What problems is Android having? I hadn't heard about that.

I have a droid tablet, crashy, freezes all the time. From a programming stand point, Android is the least stable one out there.
Cant open pdf on android tablet, need their crap software, iverall not happy at all.

We have a tablet with Android and it does well for media consumption. I would replace my Windows Mobile 6.5 phone with an Android one if I had to replace it. Also, the Chromebook runs Chrome OS (a variant of Gentoo Linux), not Android.
I agree. We tried HPs one year at work and the Dells are worlds better.

What make/model? I had a no-name one that was similarly problematic (running Android 2.2 IIRC), but that was hardware related.
My FIL has a Toshiba Thrive and its rock solid (its been updated to run 4.0 IIRC).
IIRC, we have the Acrobat Reader app installed and it works well on the Thrive.

There is no doubt whatsoever that you guys all know more about computers than I do, but way back about the first of 2002, I bought a new Dell computer and by the time I got through dealing with Dell . . . . well, let's just say it's highly unlikely that there will ever be a Dell product in my house.

Compare prices and specifications with Lenovo. I have been using them at work and home for years without much problems. There was one model that was problematic at work, and unfortunately we bought the same model for home use, but that system still works with an external monitor. I have been buying business class systems which are usually more expensive than their other product lines. Either a T series or now the W series.
Regardless of brand, I would check the web prices on a daily basis and see if the price moves. I saw the price move frequently on the last laptop I bought so I tracked it and waited until the price fell to a low point. Also, don't forget Black Friday will be here soon and if you can wait that long, you can get better prices.

I forgot about the IBM , now Lenovo laptops. My Mom has one, been flawless.

They are good. I have been impressed with the "Business class" (Latitude) and higher end "Home" (ie: Studio) Dell Laptops, they seem to just about as be as well built for less money.
