Want a new laptop but do I want Windows 8?

All it takes is one bad experience to sour one on a company. Amazing how that works.

Later,
Dan

it's a basic survival protocal imbedded in the way we function as a human.

it's aversion conditioning.

IE.. seeing the bright color of a bug, and then finding out that bright color tastes BAD

it's eating a sausage and then having food poisoning so bad you had to be hospitalized and in critical care for 2 weeks, and then not wanting sausage!

I't like buying a gm and beig burned so bad by the lack of customer service and nitpicked by all it's lemony faults and not wanting a gm again.

Like buying a computer, being burned by that brand and not wanting another.

happens all thru nature.

It's how sheep and goat farmers protect their livestock from predators.

take some sacraficial carcass's and then douse them in a powder that causes extreme nausia and then putting them out fo r the coyote to eat.

those yote's won't attack the sheep / goats after that.

natural conditioning can take effect in as little as 1 iteration.. it's there as a defense mechanism designed to keep us safe. it just bleeds over intot he psychology area too.

have a bad enough experience with something and you avoid it.

no great mystery there. :)

Since the author didn't mention it, I would be curious to know if they fixed the display burn-in problem that plagues the retina technology. https://discussions.apple.com/message/22112638#22112638

How many instances does it take to make something a plague? I have had my retina for I think over a year now (I will have to check and see if the time I've had it means anything to you.) and have not had the slightest issue with it. I would like to know the ratio of good displays to ones with issues before I would call it a plague. It doesn't matter who makes it if it is made by man it will fail. I don't have time to dig and research problems but if I did I bet I can find intel chips that have had plagues of problems. ;) It would be nice if you could say for once something positive about our points. There was a lot if good info in the article I posted but you won't even say that.

I'm going back to watching this thread without posting there is no point to it and I have far to many things to do than to waste my time trying to dig up every issue a PC has ever had and the ones that they have now.

Depends who you ask. Ask a person who tried Windows 8 for a short time, decided it was crap and sent it back to Dell/HP/etc. and bought a Mac, then the answer would be.....one, judging by some of the posts.

From what I see and read there are a lot more people who have traded a Windows 8 machine for a Mac and liked it than people who have actually had a real problem with screen burn in on a retina MacBook Pro, or any of the other issues that seem horrible for an expensive machine, but are very rare in reality.

I have friends who are very, very proficient with Windows and there is no doubt that is the best platform for them. OTOH, for every one of them I know at least 15 people who have something wrong with their Windows computer which they can not fix and which they don't want to pay for anyone to fix for them, so the computer is essentially useless. I don't care how little it cost, it was not a good deal.

My Macs cost more to start with, but I have never had one become useless, unless it was through physical damage or extreme obsolescence.

I sent back my new PC not because of Windows 8 (5 years ago) but because I kept getting an error messages when one of the factory installed programs was loading on start-up and no help from customer support.

As you said previously: "I was like Bird - same brand - on my last PC 5 years ago. I special order it and right out of the box it had issues, I called their customer support and they did not have a fix yet but were working on it. I boxed it up, and sent it back, and got a MAC. "

And for that, you blame Microsoft Windows?

That is correct Ron. I was responding to TS post. Until he posted I did not know people were sending their new computers back with windows 8 problems, I did not, I was clarifying.
