X740 fuel filter change

As the title suggests, I changed the fuel filter on my X740 this weekend. The owner's manual states "Turn locking collar (B) counterclockwise to remove bowl (C)."

That must be if you are laying on the ground looking up at it. But if you are standing above it, like I was, you need to turn it clockwise to remove the bowl. Just thought it was interesting that they had it backwards. Although, maybe I had it backwards since I was standing. :laughing:

Any tightening / loosening instructions I have read are always from the perspective of looking at the end being loosened. A nut/bolt would also turn backwards if viewed from above. Did you change the actual fuel filter or clean/replace the screen in the water separator? From the description it sounds like you were working with the water separator. The fuel filter is a black canister that looks almost identical to the oil filter.

My 2720 manual was very confusing as in the section about changing the fuel filter they only showed a photo of the water separator and only gave instructions for removing the bowl. Only the technical manual showed the actual fuel filter replacement procedure.

From the description it sounds like you were working with the water separator. The fuel filter is a black canister that looks almost identical to the oil filter.

The x740 is like my x748...no black spin on filter. The paper filter is in the water separator.

Anybody had a problem with the fuel coming thru after filter change?

I had a little air get in my lines, but after a couple cranks it cleared.
