97 F-700 versalift bucket truck
I have a 97 Versalift bucket truck which is low on hydraulic fluid ( sight glass ). The reservoir is in the back of the truck with filters on both sides of it.
My problem is - there are no obvious oil fill points. The system appears, by design, to be closed. I am unsure why , but there is no readily apparent way to add fluid.
Also , which fluid type should I add ?, when I find out how . Tim

Can you find any sort of fill and drain plugs anywhere near the filters? They may just be square plugs, one higher than the other... or recessed Allen head plugs. The fluid went in there must be a way to drain and replace it, especially if there are two filters. Keep looking.

what model of machine??? sounds like a VST or VO unit.. Jim

I will check the model of versalift , it is a 35 ' bucket lift with a pto driven pump , the tank is about 20 gallons , but with no removeable plugs anywhere accessible .
I can remove either of the filters on the side of the tank and fill it , but i don't think that is how it was intended to be done . I am considering driving a punch into-through the top of the tank.
Hate to do that though. i am sure there is a way...? tim

I will take your advice and keep looking..!
There are no plugs. ...Yet. There is what appears to be a vent at the top of the tank , but it has been rivetted (many !) , not screwed.
I am considering taking the 'suction side" filter off and removing its threaded fitting so that i can fill the tank or , just driving a punch thru the top of the tank that I can plug later ...( I am a logger too , but ...)
I have a feeling though , there must be a better way, by design.
I have not been able to touch base with versalift. Thanks , Tim

So you were able to find it, great. Since it's low I would fill it with UTF?, unless you've found it takes something different, and run it a bit, then drop one or both filters and save contents into two separately marked containers. Then send one or both samples for an oil analysis. This way you'll know what the condition of the fluid is and whether to change it or leave it as is.
