Buying Advice Buy now or wait for new models

/ Buy now or wait for new models #11
I am looking at a 1540 Massey and dealer tells me the new models will have to comply with new diesel fuel regulations making the 2013 models , which they stopped production on , more desirable . He said he tried to locate a new 1635 for buyer and none within 500 miles. What I own will do me through the winter but needing a new one soon , at least 40hp . Any advice , maybe just a big sales pitch but if he is right maybe I should jump on one before gone. They have 2 1540's , one 1529 , one 1615 left

Tell him you want a 1635, or 1643. The 1540 is nice, but it only has the 8x8 syncshuttle trans. You can get the 12x12 powershuttle in the 1600 series.

The original trans options are not available anymore? :confused3: Way back when, when I was looking at them, you could get 3 different transmissions in them. I guess that they did away with some of the options when the 16 series came out? Anyway, they are still a very nice machine, not a 16 series, but still a nice machine.;)

It has the
8x8 SynchroShuttle , you have to clutch for forward and reverse but I don't use a FEL that much and its pretty smooth so no worries on that end .

There is a dealer about 15 miles further that had a 1635 left with the 12x12 , would I notice the 5hp difference , cant find a 1643 in this neck of the woods

Don't sacrifice what you want or need in a tractor to avoid T-4. As many are finding that horse is out of the barn!

You may save some money now only to have a tractor you don't like a year down the road.

You might notice the difference, but that's just a guess. 5hp is enough to go up one size in rotary cutter, or let you cut much thicker brush, using the same size cutter, without bogging down.

I would hurry to find a tier 3 if you can ... But that's because I'm cheap and would have a very hard time paying several thousand $$$ more for the same tractor because of emissions BS. Not to mention the potential for extra repair or maintenance costs down the road associated with the extra components.

Even if you have to go out of state and have it shipped. I had a truck shipped from Colorado to Detroit for around $700, FYI.

T-4 is one reason I bought my Kioti cab tractor earlier this year.If the T-4 tractor engines are anything like our new diesel trucks at work don,t walk RUN to buy a T-3.

Agreed. Also I would be a bit concerned about the T-4 controls being new. Chances are by 2nd or 3rd year they will have made fixed and maybe even upgraded it a bit.
