ran in to problem

i am rebuilding my 600 tractor steering gear box, i bought new worm gear, bearings and cups, today i started to put this togther , and the steering shaft don't want to fit right,( when i tighten it up the steering locks up) im not sure why , i have put the box completly togther, but i have to leave the top lose.i can't get any end play even with shims.

i know i just posted this before i sent you that pm , and buy the way thank you for replying, i am going to take the box back apart to check all the things you told me.

rare.. but I have seen incorrect races, or not seating good.. or wrong profile bearings that had straight cylinders and not the bbls...

i found my problem today, i took everything and layed it on my bench , i left my wife in the house ( she likes to help ) and i found that the shaft was bent . id like to thank soundguy for his help in this matter , now im just waiting for warmer weather. to put the tractor back togther.

I'm sure Sounder gave you good advise, first thing that comes to mind are the bearing cups aren't seated properly.

i found out the steering tube was bent it would put every thing in a bind when i tightened everything down i got the gear box put back on the tractor yesterday it will be ready for the summer in no time. i would like to thank everyone who has offered advice .
