I have had both and like the deckover best. I found the perfect trailer for me, a 4' pop-up dove tail. The 5' dove tail would drag on the terraces in the hay field.
For hauling square hay bales, the ramps make a back stop.
For round bales, leave the deck down and ramps hold the last one or two in place.
The receiver hitch was used mainly to pull a 16' deckover with 6 round bales on it, from the hay field.
For equipment, ramps slide in to match tread width, and support the rear. This is the heaviest load that I have hauled on it, back in September, 2009.
I went across the scales with 12,640 on the deck, 14,200 on the axles, 3,440 on the ball, Just 3,640 pounds over the 14K GVWR.
I tow with a International 4700 LP with a DT530E and an allison md3060 tranny. Works like a charm! Much more stable and safer than my old cummins pickup.
