2012 Kioti DK45 HST Cab
I just took a look at Kioti's website. They've launched a whole bunch of new tractors and a whole new line, but there seems to be a fair amount of overlap now. I know the whole tier IV argument and some people liking it and some don't, but there are many other changes to drool over.

The CK20 is being replaced by a more powerful model, the DK series seems to be replaced by the new NX series that starts at 45 hp and the RX series is expanded. My interests are the differences between the DK and NX series and if it's worth trading my less than 2 year old DK 45 HST Cab for a NX4510 HST Cab. I'm interested in a quieter cab, I'd love a comfortable seat and they seem to have come part way towards the HST + features that I'm jealous of in the Grand L Kubotas. I'm also not scared by the new tier IV engines. I'm wondering if I should ask my dealer how much it would cost to make the trade, I'm almost wondering if there will be a time where they'll be able to sell a used DK45 at a premium to people scared off of the new engines.

Anybody else considering trading for a new model?

Ken I wonder if the "time people would be interested in a DK45 with interim Tier IV" would be pretty short and now instead of later as people become accustomed to the new Tier IV, and become less "scared" of it as they become more mainstream? Just a thought.. tell your wife hi, I am not really trying to talk you into trading:D:D

LIAR!!! :D Ya, I agree, it's not going to take long for people to not only be comfortable with but have a strong preference for the new engines. I think the sweet spot for trading will be right after supply of new DK's is almost gone, and that probably won't be that long from now. My dealer should be at my place when I get home today, they're coming for a second attempt to fix a coolant leak in the roof of the cab and tighten the belts that are starting to slip. I may have a little chat with him.

So, how'd the "chat" go?

It looks like the NX was influenced by the Grand L a fair amount.

It's tempting, BUT I try to not engage in being a crash test dummie for new technologies. No version 1.0 stuff for me. And if the tier 4 engines have significant rollout issues the earlier engines will be in even higher demand and shorter supply. JMPO, YMMV

Not well unfortunately, the mixing valve that's been ordered to fix the leak still hasn't arrived. It should be there today but they're not coming to fix it until tomorrow.

The Grand L and the DK series have always been really close IMHO. My preference is the Kioti and I'm well aware that yours is the Kubota, we both my be a little biased though! The one thing the Grand LXX40 has had over the DK is the HST+. Nice to see Kioti take note of it, but they fell short with their response in the NX series IMHO. I don't need stall guard but I really like tying engine RPM to the HST control. Unfortunately, they don't seem to have taken it much further than that.

I agree, can't argue it at all. I've done it before (with a car) and lost.

One thing that is tempting me a little more is the ability to chose different tires. My DK45 is a little rough on my lawn with R4's to say the least. I'm wondering if I might be better to go with turfs instead since 99% of my time is spent on the lawn or road. They're apparently better in the snow as well and that's a big part of my tractor hrs.

If the features of HST+ and light weight are high on your wish list, why not just get the Grand L? Kubota makes pretty good tractors.

The Grand L's weight about the same as the DK's and I'm assuming the NX's, it's the standard L's that are light. I do like the HST + for sure. I always find myself doing cost benefit analysis on just about anything I buy, and for me, the Grand L's don't offer anything compelling other than the HST+ and for me, that one feature isn't worth the premium Kubota demands. HST+ aside, they each have features the other is missing, but I prefer the ones that come on the Kioti. Overall, I think you get more features, slightly more lift from the FEL and a much lower price and those are the main points that are important to me in a tractor.

You don't need to convince me on the bang for the buck or capability angles. I acknowledge the HST+ benefit but it would to me be like trading in a perfectly good relatively new car just because the next years model had one new feature. Rarely are such features necessary (Isn't it remarkable how Kubota built its business before they developed HST+) so from my perspective is just doesn't make sense to trade. There will be a big depreciation hit anyway you look at it.
