You don't need to convince me on the bang for the buck or capability angles. I acknowledge the HST+ benefit but it would to me be like trading in a perfectly good relatively new car just because the next years model had one new feature. Rarely are such features necessary (Isn't it remarkable how Kubota built its business before they developed HST+) so from my perspective is just doesn't make sense to trade. There will be a big depreciation hit anyway you look at it.

I think that's what I'm curious about, the depreciation hit. My CK30 got 94% on trade, mostly because the price of a new one had gone up and brought up the price of a used one. With the price going up with tier IV and with people being very leery about the new engines, I'm wondering if I would get a trade value now. I don't think that strange situation would last long, that's why I'm wondering out loud now.

There's several new features that I would like and as I said before, the opportunity to go with turfs since I'm destroying my lawn. I'm pretty sure my dealers going to pour cold water on this idea pretty quickly anyway, and don't get me wrong, I still love my DK45.

It would be a lot cheaper to just buy a set of turf tires.

I just looked at the specs on the new NX series. Nice but not that different from the DKse except for the Tier 4 engine. On the 45hp version the NX gets a three cylinder engine vs four on the DK. Hydraulic pump output is up by one gallon per min. PTO power is down by 2hp. HST now has the stall control feature. Loader is virtually identical on lift specs. 3PT lift is higher on the NX and total weight is down by several hundred pounds. The NX is nice but I sure didn't see any features that would drive many DKse owners to upgrade.

The new version of the CK20 adds 2.5hp but otherwise is very similar. I cannot believe they did not upgrade the HST on that new one to 3 range though. It is not like they haven't had time to figure out how to do it as Kubota has had 3 range on their B series for at least four or five years now. Too bad.

I agree, they could have done more in a few areas. I would like a quieter cab, not that mines bad, but it's not like a car/truck and I don't know why it can't be and the new HST, even though it falls short of what I was hoping they'd come out with, would still be a nice improvement. There are a few other features that would be nice, but some features like the rear 3pt hitch lever would be missed and some like the radio that are now extras. I'm not so sure the "upgrade" would cost much more than a set of turf tires that are loaded. I might be able to sell the R4s I have, but otherwise, I'm sure it would be 3K + for rims, tires and fluid. I fired off an email to my dealer. I might see him at my house tomorrow before he answers it, but we'll see what he has to say.

I'm guessing the dealer would want your tractor plus 5 or 6K for the upgrade.

Have you priced turfs? I didn't think they were that much. Maybe you can use the same rims and salvage the ballast.

Nope, I haven't priced them, but I don't think the rims fit from what I've read in other threads. I'm going to guess rubber and rims are at least $2K (I think that's probably low), $400 for ballast and the rest for transport and dealer time. Those tires are to heavy for me to play with, I'd have it done. If I'm right with $3K, it's a no brainer IMO to give him $4-5K for a new tractor. My dealer includes all that in the sale and also comes to my place for warranty work or floats it to his shop free of charge (only free during the warranty period). That with a new warranty and resetting the hour meter is worth a couple $K to me, the new features I like would simply be a bonus.

Turf tires, check. New warranty and start clock at 0, check. HST/ no stall, check. Tier 4 engine, version 1.0, <warning> unknown potential issues, possible downtime, waiting on modified/updated parts, supply chain issues, dealer learning curve, priceless?! Maybe NOT.:2cents::confused3:

If your wife hears of your plan, you are gonna be sleeping in the tractor bucket.

Ask the dealer if he'll take the R4s in trade. If they cost $4k they are certainly worth something. I still think you could get new tires for way less than you are thinking.

Yeah, I was trying to get him bit with the gun thing, have him come down here and do some shooting and get him addicted, but it ain't happened yet. I have 3 main afflictions, Tractors, Guns, and Ham Radio/electronics.. Oh, well 3 aint bad. I don't do the alcohol, or crack or cocaine or Tarts, so I am not too bad off I guess.
