MF 135
Hi all,

I live on a small holding in southern Norway. We dragged out a 1969 MF 135 out of a bush, which had grown through the tractor over 15-20 years according to the in laws.

I have managed to get the engine running and have changed most fluids and filters, etc. We have driven it over the summer, couple of small jobs, and its proven to work fine.

Now winter is coming and we would like to clear snow with it, however the hydraulics (it has a front loader) do not operate at all.

I have started to fault find, but as i have zero experiance, i will need to post some questions to help me. I've managed to get hold of a couple of good workshop manuals for it, which helps loads, but i could do with some good advice and tips from people who know what there are doing!!!

Anyway hi to all and looking forward to getting / giving advice ( when i've got some hours under my belt ).

Have you checked the hydraulic oil, it may not have any in the reservoir. Also if been setting in the weeds for years, water could have accumulated in the pan and frozen damaging the internal suction line or even the pump itself. Most hydraulic pumps are gear drive so it should be turning if the motor turns over. I would open all the drains and flush the system well with diesel. I don't think tractors of that era had a filter for the hydraulics but I am not familiar with MF. I would start with the reservoir and work forward from there to the pump, blowing and cleaning out the lines and sump.

There should be a sump filter that's right behind the PTO selector.

Hi,

I guess i should post this in MF classic section too?

Anyway - problem no hydraulics!

I've changed the oil and filter plus diesel flush with no effect.

Had a look through dip stick cover and all looked ok, lever operation and outlet pipe connected. Looked ok.

So i've taken the hydraulic lift cover off, drained all the oil again and taken off the pressure control valve (as in the picture) as i removed it, the cap came off and spring fell into 10 pieces. Also as i removed the pipe to the diaphram it appeared to be full of water (clear fluid).

So i have taken the whole thing down to the local garage for them to sort it (i panicked).

I the meantime i am going to clean all the sump and components in there. Theres a good 2cm of sand etc covering the bottom! Really dirty.

Is there any other things i should be checking? Is this the cause of no hydraulics have i broke it more?

Spring no. 3 broke!

I have the next generation of that tractor with a loader and the loader is powered off of a front mounted pump with the tank in the right loader riser. The loader tank is not in the transmission on mine. If it is like mine you add fluid to below the level of the drain plug. Check that the pump rubber coupling has not rotted away. I would take the lines loose at the pump and if you see watery fluid I would replace it. 5 gallons or so if I recall correctly.
